I tried using a condom cathater for the first time just now and had NO success. The condoms that they gave me were a "Medium" size and when I put the first one on, I messed it up. I put another one on and this one was put on correctly it just hugged my penis TOO tight. This then gave me an erection and I guess from the condom being so tight it kept the blood in. The tip of my penis became purple/red and I thought well maybe it's supposed to be like that but there is NO WAY it has to look like that. Help me with this please

Another thing is my urologist gave me the belly bag, not the leg bag. So my penis has to be aimed upwards just to pee into the bag which would not allow me to use a belt because it would cut the passage way where the urine would pass off. It would also look very ridiculous with a big bulge under my shirt . I can get the leg bag but I would have to get the extension leading from the condom to the bag. Someone please help me, I have been peeing on myself everyday almost and have twice already today. I don't know what to do except wear a diaper which is what I'm doing right now. Anyone here have a condom cathater and if so help me please?? Thanks

No, at the moment I'm on VESIcare. It's 5mg once a day. I don't want anymore medicine as long as I can get the condom cathater going correctly. This is the most depressing thing about my condition  . Aren't those the most powerful bladder medicines? If so, what do they do?

Yeah WD, I use ‘em. Mostly at night because they seem to be hard on my skin, but I’ll use one if I’m gonna be out for any length of time. They come in 2 main types, one version uses a kind of double sided tape to attach and the other uses a sticky coating, stay away from the double sided tape kind. Application will become second nature with some practice. If you can only get them tape kind, pm me and I’ll give ya some pointers on how to get them on…

They some in many sizes so that won’t really be an issue and I’d consider the erection as a good thing, right?… at least it’s still workin’. Also makes it easier to put on…

You will need to use an extension with the legbag (another way to gouge the SCI patient) and you do want gravity to keep urine drained away from your skin.

Use a good barrier film also, this will help protect your skin. And make sure to keep a good watch on the skin of your penis…..

I’ve been covered in urine on many a day, so I understand what you’re going thru…

Condom caths are fine but need a bit of effort to get right. Most are not made in a wide enough range of sizes. The best choce comes from Manfred Sauer. Have a look on their site and then ask for some samples. The self adhesive ones are normally the easiest to keep on. The guy on the helpline is worth talking to about these as he is a user.

Hey mate, I have used condom cath now for 18 years. My care givers will put it on in the morning and I will wear it until the following morning. Forget that bag on your belly that's a load of crap, you need a leg bag with a extension tube. My extension tube is around 35cm or 14 inches but each extension tube will very. You need your leg bag sitting just above your ankle and always make sure your condom isn't twisted. Those double sided tape condoms are a waist of time, try using only self adhering I find active cath condoms AMAZING they are the best condom ever made mate and believe me I have tried at least 15 different brands. I enclosed a link below showing you the exact condom cath. Latex is allot better as long as your not allergic to it, try keep away from the silicon due to the fact latex stretches as for silicon doesn't stretch much at all.

Hi have to agree with all, condom caths used right are brilliant, have to admit I had problems when first using the uridrop with adhesive tape,, caused discomfort/inflamation on my penis, but now use self adhesive ones with bigger size to helps [so long as not too big - slip off]
Also personally i find its better trying to keep foreskin pulled forward is more comfortable [its not easy when pulling bloody things on] and last not least KY jelly is great for comfort/hygene

Hi,

When I was young I used the condom caths for almost ten years. I found that your skin needs to be extremely dry when when putting the catheter on, otherwise any adhesive won't work at all and you'll leak the first time you have to pee into it. I also used elastic tape called, "Coban" around the catheter to hold it into place and really get the adhesive to stick. With luck I would only leak once every couple weeks or so when doing this method.

So make sure your skin is very very dry when putting the catheter on. Try Coban or something like it, just make sure not to wrap it too tight, otherwise your circulation will be cut off. Here's a link to the Coban stuff: http://www.vitalitym...p;keyword=coban

Make sure you have the right size catheter too. And I agree with everyone else that the belly-bag is not what you need at all. Get the leg bag with the extension. Having any exess liquid in the catheter being aimed up toward your belly-bag means that it will begin to break away the adhesive as it sits there and gravity pulls the liquid down. Once the barrier of the adhesive breaks, you'll leak - which sounds exactly like what's happening to you now. It's much better, as others have said, to have the extension bag down to your leg so the catheter can rest at a more natural place, and the liquid will have a more natural route to flow down into the bag.

You should have much less leaks this way. Dry skin is ridiculously important.

Good luck.

-Seth

I would have to agree with everyone here. Get the self-adhesive kind and use some type of protective barrier wipe. For me it's better if I have an erection because it's easier to get it on and dry skin is a must. Once you have the condom cath on, give the shaft of your penis a nice firm squeeze for 10-15 seconds to make sure you get a good connection. I will need to try that Coban stuff though. I still leak every once in a while...doh!

These are great: http://secure.srginc...d...&mode=build

NO skin irritation
NO issues with latex allergy
NO barrier wipes
NO seperate adhesive strip .... thingie. BTW, its easy to put those strips on too tight. Ever hear of foot binding that used to be practiced to make women have small feet? Well, if you put those strips on too tight, over a period of time the same thing will happen to Mr. Happy. -not good-

As others have said, they are best to put on with an erection. Then you can just unroll them carefully so as to eliminate air bubbles. I find they adhere best shortly after drying off from a shower.

These bags are really good: http://secure.srginc...d...&mode=build Getting a left or a right offset really helps keep it hidden on your calf and it still drains fine.

These straps are great too: http://secure.srginc...d...&mode=build

Get some extension tubing and you are set.
