I haven't read all the posts and I'm sure there are many regarding wheelchair cushions and which ones work and which ones don't.

Some people selling these don't care if you get sores or get worse if you buy their products as long as they make a commission for selling you one which is why this supplier recommends this cushion and another seller recommends another. Get the facts from people using them.

I used a Jay2 and Jay2 Extreme cushion for years and had no problems luckily but later in life I believe your skin changes and becomes more suseptible to getting break dows as you age. I went almost 13 years before I got my first pressure sore and thought it was the cushion but I now believe it was because my skin has changed later in life. If I had known what I know now I may have been able to prevent these sores.

The Jay2 cushion actually gives little protection because it is made of a hard foam base and has a gel cushion attachment that supports the tail bone and buttox area. The problem is when you transfer and sit a few minutes the gel actually pushes out the baskside leaving very little support.

The Roho Quadro Select was my next choice where you can alter the pressure by letting air our of the support pillows and still believe from my point that it may be the second best choice in cushions available.

My first choice and the one that will prevent and heal pressure sores is the AirpulsePK cushion by Aquila Corporation and you can read more at http://www.aquilacorp.com/ I found this by Internet searching and am glad I did find it. It took me 6 months to get one after I found it.

People like me and others who would like to be active really can use this product and like in another post I said I am in no way affiliated with them, I just use the product.

I know many of you have had to deal with pressure sores and may like me still be dealing with them. I've spent countless days in the hospital on IV therapy for infections you get after you get a pressure sore. I'm still taking IV's at home now. Having to alter your life around nurses coming in and doing wound dressings sometimes 7 days a week. You can't plan on doing things because nurses come when they can and you get what time is left for yourself. The toll it takes on our spouses and family is also to be considered. I've also had to deal with "Quack" doctors who really don't want you to heal so they can keep a paycheck coming in and doctors who just do not know enough about the correct treatment of wounds. I've had doctors refer me to plastic surgeans who were also inexperienced and after the operation failed just send you home to deal with it but they still get paid for practicing on you. Well that's another story!

They make them for manual chairs as well as for power chairs.

I hope this information can help someone else.

GOD bless you all!

Hi, I have used a cushion from Vicair but could also use some advise on how to check suitability. I have recently had a new chair and cushion from wheelchair services but it wasnt checked.I am just sitting on it. Is this usual?

I do know each and every AirpulsPK cushion is custom ordered and only built to fit you. They ask things like "do you have issicial wounds", "do you tend to lean one way or the other" so they can customize the pressure so areas with wounds have zero pressure and give different pressures where needed. I hoep that helps.

I have used Roho's before and was happy til one failed, lost air, creating my second sore. Since I had 2, I started using the backup cushion from my manual chair. When it came time to upgrade my powerchair, I changed to RIDE DESIGN, no electric,no air. Hard foam with a void, pressure mapped, covered with mesh. The void allows for bony prominences to remain free of pressure by supporting thighs and outer buttocks. The cover allows air and blood circulation, thus reducing pressure relief. I've been using this cushion for over a year and a half and highly recommend it. sage
