Hi,

As most of you will have already discovered John and I are pretty niave when it comes to most things to do with SCI. :)

John is an incomplete so he can walk, but as he progressively gets worse, the pain he feels with spasticity in his legs means that he walks a very short distance and has to keep stopping. He either has to sit down or if there is nothing to sit on, he needs to lean on something.

He has come to the conclusion that he needs walking sticks or crutches to make life easier, who do we need to contact, the GP or Social Services?

Help please as we don't know?

Maria :helpme:
Wife of an incomplete SCI - level C5/6 - accident lifting boards above his head in work caused popping sensation in his neck and this was the result. He uses a wheelchair part of the time.

Never say never, and definately do not quit, its usually worth the trying in the end.

hi Maria

You should first see your GP and get a referal to your nearest occupational therapy dept. They will then come round to your house in no less than groups of 3, bringing with them lots of stuff you may not even need but you'll get it anyway!! :mfrlol: they will assess John for what he can do, and sort out stuff like sticks, crutches or even a chair if needed. I should know, my husband is an OT!!.

Cheers

L
