A Docter once told my Husband this was due to intestrial gas.He said they use to prescribe charcoal biscuts
for it ,but have stopped now.He didnt give him any more advice, which i thought was a bit stupid.I read somewhere that peppermint water was good.Apart from that surly there must be some answers, as this can be quite uncomfortable.

Doctors!, at least they're good for a laugh! :)

The "Quadpot" is due to the paralysed muscles in the abdomen becoming overstretched due to gravity, and once overstretched, there is little you can to to tighten them up again.

The only thing you can do, is to wear a binder for cosmetic appearances. You may be able to lose excess weight, which will reduce the stomach area, but it's really the stretched muscles that give the appearance of the Quadpot.

The Quadpot tends to be different on different people depending on residual muscle tone and spasticity. My Quadpot didn't really start to show untill about 5 years after my accident, as untill this point I had muscle spasms in my abdomen which kept the muscles toned.

As soon as my spasms were under control from my Baclofen Pump, the muscle tone was reduced, and the Quadpot started to develop.

I don't like it, but I have to live with it.

Just another little gem we're given with SCI!

Simon.

I think Robert "para-pot" is sexy as all get out. I would not change it for anything. Nothing is better than rubbing his belly while I fall asleep.

There are many names for the quad belly. I think the oddest one I heard was potter gutter.

If you have unwanted loose skin on your abdominal area, consider abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). I am a paraplegic (T12/L1) and my accident caused major swelling of a previously toned tummy. On top of not caring about my appearance over the last four years, eating made my stomach even larger.

I am waiting for the right time to have the procedure myself, other health issues hold higher importance. I was a soldier, corrections officer and avid runner, so I am NOT used to, nor happy with my fat appearance now. Doing laps at the track can only improve so far down my torso, and I feel that a tummy tuck is in my best interest to improve my self image.

Hope this answer proves to be helpful.
