I just have a question about a friend if someone could answer it... she was in a car accident 2 weeks ago and had to be air lifted pretty far away so she is having her husband type updates on facebook for us she said "They have labled me as a "paraplegic" but I will work hard to use my legs again" Can someone tell me can you be a paraplegic and not be totally paralized from the neck down? I do not have the heart to ask her this question, she is trying so hard to stay upbeat about everything. Thank you!

Paraplegia affects the legs. If you were paralyzed from the neck down, you would be a quadriplegic (which affects your arms in some way). Did she hurt her neck or her back?

Is this all the information you have?
It depends on whether her spinal cord was completely severed or not and even then it depends. If it has only been two weeks, there is much that they won't know for some time if she is incomplete.

As a friend, it is important that you are supportive no matter how things turn out. It is too soon to know much and she is in shock and she will keep telling herself this to help herself to get through this. At the same time her whole body has been traumatized and it's going to do weird things while it is trying to heal and she will be finding this out as things go along. I can't guess if she will walk again from this info. She may not or she may and if that is the case it may be a long time in coming. Either way she still will have to keep healthy, deal with things differently and exercise only helps all the way around.

Just remember that she is still the same person, she is going through things that are going to mess with her head as she figures it out. She is going to have a lot of ups and downs. What you can do is continue being a friend. Just by coming on here and asking your question is a great beginning. Educate yourself here, read and ask more questions. When you understand what is going on with her you can be a great friend and help her with her recovery and it is just a matter of doing some things differently.

Thanks for asking your question:) I hope that was an adequate start for your search for info.
