Following an email this morning from Gary, it is with great sadness that I have to inform Apparelyzed readers that Gary's nephew, Alan, died at the weekend.
As members of the forum will know, Gary (already paralysed from a prevous accident) and Alan were in a car accident in the new year which left Alan a C3/4 Quadriplegic. Gary has made many posts requesting information on Alan's behalf, to which forum members have kindly responded with advice and get well wishes.
I wish to publicly offer condolences on behalf of the boards members to Gary and Alan's family, and let Gary and his family know they are in our thoughts.
Gary will be taking time off from posting in the forum for a while, but will still be logging in to read posts from time to time.
You know where we are Gary if you need to talk.

Hi Gary,
I have read many of your post and saw the compassion you felt for Alan, our deepest sympathies to you and your immediate family.
God bless you all.
Let us know when the funeral is through the site and we could hold a minutes silence, privately sending out our thoughts to you all.

Wife of an incomplete SCI - level C5/6 - accident lifting boards above his head in work caused popping sensation in his neck and this was the result. He uses a wheelchair part of the time.
Never say never, and definately do not quit, its usually worth the trying in the end.

Thanks for the messages folks. It comforts the family to know that so many people are thinking about us at this time.
As Coach says - now comes grieving. Although that hits us in two ways - grief that we have lost someone but yet relief that his suffering is over.
My nephew was a lot like me - 16.5 years and counting and I STILL have not truly accepted what happened - so how could he at 17.
The funeral is on Friday at 10.00am so once that is over we can start to put the pieces back together. It helps that my Dad is a minister.
Thanks anyway.

ALWAYS REMEMBER - The darkest hour is only 60 minutes long and what won't kill you will make you stronger.

Nothing I can say at this time will offer you any comfort I know Gary, but I think I can say that everyone that comes here will be all thinking about you on Friday morning.
Take good care and you are all in my thoughts
