Hi!!!!! Just wanted to share info!!!! Guess in order to xplain I need to tell you a bit about me - I'm not sure if ive ever done the "proper" intro although this site has helped me more than anyone could probably explain!!!! Prior to my accident I wasn't naturally slim - I married, had 2 gorgeous children, then discovered exercise and weightwatchers - especially running. At the time of my accident nearly 18mths ago, I was the happiest ever. Married with 2 gorgeous children, and extremely slim(maybe too skinny). Over the past 18mths although I go to the gym, swim and play tennis - there is no denying I have put on weight. Physically i actually weigh the same, but I have the dreaded para-belly - and I hate it! About 2 months ago I decided to cut the alcohol. I am a massive fan of weight watchers but despite repeated attempts to get them to calculate how many points I shld hav whilst sitting down........they haven't yet got back to me. Anyway last week my sister mentioned the dukan diet.....l.I am 4 days in and I feel so much better. It is basically a high protein low fat diet, but after just a few days without the carbs I feel so much better. It is quite hardcore- but I am going to give it a go...... Google it!!!!!!

Hi Cas how is it going? I did Atkins a few years ago and it worked really well for me, I'm frightened of doing it again because it is very high in fat and exercise has to be a big part of it. The Dukan Diet looks like a good option for the less active, thanks for the tip.

Hmmmm.... It went really well for a week, initially it was hard but then I found it really easy to stick to, and I certainly wasn't ever hungry. I've had a naughty few weeks with lots of social events, but I'm trying to get back on it. I think as a lifestyle the diet is probably too restrictive, but the principles- basically low fat and almost no carbohydrates will work. I'm certainly going to keep the carbs as low as possible!

Good for both of you. The Dukan is similar to the Atkins and the South Beach whatever diets. I am a great fan of weight watchers for people who need guidance in the food department to lose weight as well. It's inspirational to hear such success stories; keep it up. I also got the dreaded para-spare tire and am ruthlessly trying to get rid of it.

I was thinking that people with large waists are prone to diseases of the heart. Does that mean that all of us who had slim waists before but now due to being in the wheelchair and developing the para-spare now have large waists; are we now prone to this or is it genetic.....hmmmmm sounds like a good research paper or dissertation for someone.


I did read in the Dukan Diet that they suggest reintroducing carbs at a low rate at some time in the diet. Remember it's a life style change so make it one that is something you can stick to for life.

Congrats on cutting out the alcohol. :muahaha:

Para pot is just loss of muscle tone. My understanding is that it's the accumulation of excess fats round the waist that is thought to increase the risk of heart problems. Reports that I've seen suggest that recent research has indicated that this is belief is not supported by the evidence. Excess fat anywhere is the problem.
There's no hope for me, but who the hell wants to live forever anyway? :mfrlol:

Tyvin- I am a huge weightwatchers fan too, although I haven't got to grip with the new pro points. However despite asking numerous times they will not give me a definitive answer as to how many points I can now have as a complete para. I exercise every day, but clearly am getting the equation of how much I put in my mouth as against how much I burn off wrong,,, as I now have weight to lose and it is making me very unhappy!! Think I will write to ww head office and ask again!
