I work in Penrith which has some of the worst pavements Ive seen in years. Im actually getting paranoid that Im going to break either an axel pin, or the bit that holds the front castors in place. The whole town is a mixture of flagstones, cobbles, and very bad surfaces. As access officer Im out and about a lot......not getting access anywhere I might add. Im really really conscious of the fact that its bang, bang, bump, wallop, bang, squeak everywhere I go, I can hear my chair taking a real pounding and Im starting to get just a bit worried.

Can anyone reassure me that its up to the job and Im worrying unnecessarily!!! RGK by the way, but then
everyone knows that!. :D

Cheers
Luce

As i mess around with cars and landrovers my technical isnt great but in my experience i would of thought any pin or shaft would bend rather than snap depending what material its made out of. Steel would bend (unless there is a fracture in the metal) and so would ally. An other lightweight metal would also bend. Only time i think it would just snap is if it is cast. cast metal is very heavy and will not be used on a wheelchair or any disability equipment. I would of thought chairs would be fairly well tested to huge strains and since you look rather slim i wouldnt worry at all. If the pin bends then the wheel would start to catch the frame and you will be able to tell. hope that helps.

Cheers Lee.
I do it erratically, often with bits fallling off.
