I found a shower commode wheelchair that is made by Invacare that is electronically controlled, reclines, is a tilt in space and has adjustable heights. Because it has removable arms, my husband's PT said that I would be able to transfer him laterally from the hospital bed to the chair without having to use a Hoyer lift. The problem is that I cannot find it in the United States. It is called

Invacare's Aquatec Ocean EVIP shower commode chair. Is there anyone that has heard of this and can help me find it?

Is this what you mean? http://tinyurl.com/3x8fq96

Why don't you give them a call and see if they deliver to the States. Unless of course you can find it in the US. Any business worth their salt will always make an effort to get an item to you, wherever you are in the world. Plenty of couriers. It's so easy to deliver to U.S.

If you really get stuck. Come back to me, maybe I can help using DisabledGear.com as an intermediary?

Best wishes

Note: it is VIP in US not EVIP - Aquatec Ocean VIP Tilt-in Space Shower Commode Chair

We purchased the Aquatec Ocen VIP for my wife. It is the best shower chair we have ever seen. We looked at others such as one from Sweden that was powered with a battery. This one (the Ocean) has a shock absorber-type action similar to what is on your car hood, and allows you to tilt in space by using a lever similar to a brake lever on a motor cycle. Very light and maneuverable.

However, your post worries me. You will still need to transfer to the chair, as it does not adjust height except as a one-time thing. Plus, the transferee's butt is usually bare to get them into the chair, so a slider board is out of the question unless you wish to chance skin shear injury. If you put a towel under the transferee, you'd have to get it out before they could use the toilet. WEe have what is called a sure-hands lift for that Much more convenient than a sling, and quicker. We installed an overhead lift that simply transfers her to and from bed and the chair, and between chairs, etc. SO we use it to get her out of bed into the power chair, and from the power chair to the shower chair, and from the shower chair to bed, or any combination thereof. See it at www.surehands.com

Anyway, it's a great chair for both shower and toilet. Dries quickly. We found ours by shopping around to a few of the neighborhood DME suppliers, and found the one that carried it. Do a google search, and find from the manufacturer who is the local one that carries it. Mine told me any of them could get it. Ther is a rehab center in Baltimore where you are that is famous. I think tha they do the project Wal k there, if I am not mistaken. Talk to them, and they can tell you who most of the local suppliers are.
