Hi Erik

You are doing brilliantly. You should get into the gym as soon as possible. I am a Quad/Tetra walker. Another walker came to visit me in hospital twice while I was in the wheelchair and he told me to get into the gym. The gym worked wonders. Well done with the half a mile walk today. It will not be long before you walk a mile. Get you hands on a book named The Whartons'BACK BOOK by Jim & Phil Wharton with BEv BROWNING. The book will be excellent for you, as a walker. It hands photos of exercises. Check the book out on www.amazon.com The book is very cheap if you get it from there. It has plenty of exercises that you can almost do anywhere.

In two months time you will be walking two miles, I looked at your videos last night on youtube. I look forward to seeing more as you progress.

Erick,

Yours is the second mention I have seen relating spasms to coffee and coke. I will test this as soon as I finish this coffee.
Look! It's a snail! It's a sloth! Able to creep short distances before lunch!

Hi Erick

Well done on purchasing the book. Maybe it will be the best think that you will ever by as a spinal cord injured person. I actually bought the book two months before I got injured as I had lower back pain.

I was injured on Sunday 29 March 2009. I was in hospital until Friday 17 July 2009. I am the quickest ever to leave the Spinal Unit that I was in but that was only because I was due to get married in August 2009. I am doing a speech this saturday in front of around 350 people in a hotel in Leeds; England. I have a few videos that I aim to post on this website next week. I hope to get the speech on saturday recorded. The function is at the President's Ball for the Rugby League Benevelent Fund.

Speak soon

Wow! Thats awesome!
I don't believe I could do that... I'm second to everyone when it comes to intelligence lol!
Just wondering?? How long after your accident were you able to walk? An do you walk unaided? An how many months out were you when you noticed you wasn't improving as much.??
Thanks man

Erick

Hi Erick

I started standing at nine weeks. I also started walking between parallel bars and also used a zimmer frame. I walked unaided as of week sixteen.

I was told when I asked if I would ever run an half marathon again that I will never run more than 800 metres ever again, as I will not have the strengh. But you can prove me wrong. Nine weeks later, I had proven them wrong a did three miles in 36 minutes. When I last did it, it was just over 31 minutes. That was June 2009. I actually feel better but have not tried to trot since July 2009, as I am still inproving I am sure that you will trot soon.

Hi Erick, I just watched your video. Nice, nice job! You should be proud of your accomplishment. I know how hard it was to achieve!

I'm working on walking with a single cane right now and will use you as inspiration.

Someday, we just may be running those three-legged races again!

Ginny
