To the other half dozen who are on the forum at this moment, I ask, "Are we just sad, sad people to be on this forum on xmas day? Or is it a measure of the importance of Apparelyzed in our lives that drives us to look in here today?"

I know what my answer is.

Dinner is cooking waiting on family to show for eats. Had a house full last night and will again today. That being said this forum is very important. Lets not lose sight of the friends we have made because of this forum. Merry Christmas.

BAH! Humbug.

Not really, I'm just piddling some time waiting for family to arrive. And trying to keep my hands away from the cookie tray.

You guys are ridiculously important part of the family. Its scary....

There is also something disturbing about this, as GB suggests. It is not exclusive to us disabled folk, but the way people in modern times spend so much of our time in these partially anonymous, 2-dimensional social relations that are forums. It removes some tangible aspects of traditional social interaction. It requires less energy, risks less, and I think this is some off the appeal.

It is disturbing...

At the same time it is a huge gift that we can actually find one another!

I agree but at the same time it also allows us to interact with people that we would otherwise never had a chance to get to know. Playing a game of chess with a crazy Irishman and getting ready to start up with Scribbs is that not a benefit of all this? These kinds of things I would never have had an opportunity to do had it not been for this forum. Friendships are important and we should appreciate every one we have.

Well, it's tomorrow here in the southern hemishphere, Boxing Day night actually. I think it's respectful and an acknowledgement to take 5min out to check on the forum. You never know what you might be missing if you don't poke your nose in, sort of like a daily Christmas present.
Another warm night downunder. No need for pyjamas tonight!

Wow, rue! WOW!!!! Get going in dave's sidecar in 2012, girl! And then photos!!!!!

Tetra: "less energy, risks less" ----- ha ha ha ha ha ha! (Imagine a kind of really funny and very, very cynical laughter.) OMG. Certainly not for me.

But yes, I do agree on the "huge gift", whole-heartedly.

(Oh GB, only, only to practise my English - hey, joking ....)
I much appreciate some very special people on the forum. Thanks for being you.

Bev, Christmas pics from you? Please? =)

I do hope you all have / had a wonderful Christmas. I do.

Jenny, still laughing

The answer to your question is........or what. Or what meaning that checking in and interacting on Christmas day is certainly acceptable if not part of my day. Happy to see everyone is having a bang up day. I had a wonderful Christmas regardless of the fact that all the turkeys in Honolulu were sold out days ago so I opted for a baked ham for our Christmas dinner.

I think it's weird when people refer to not having a life if you are part of a forum. The forum is a part of the life and helps when all else fails. How else could all of us have met each other? You must admit we are a tenacious, intelligent bunch giving support to each other and others in a time when it is so very much needed; and Christmas day is no different.

Think if it........from Ireland to Africa we talk and jest and cry together; how is that not a good thing to do every day! I'm going to get really sappy and say I love you guys (all of you); this site is my extended family and like real family we can't choose who they are but we are lucky that we all click so well.

So absolutely and equivocally no oh wise one who monitors the birthday archives and is in running for forum God along with (you no who); we are not sad we............ are family!

Merry Christmas GB; you always do good. :bye:

I came in here and read posts on Christmas Day and here I am again.

This place means so much to me, in ways I can't even describe. I worry about those one here when I am away, I find myself thinking of you when I watch the news and even the weather, wondering what is going on in all of these parts of the world that gather here, and about those who have been absent for periods of time. Something happens in a day and it makes me think of someone on here and then I am anxious to get on here and see what is happening. I read through posts and can tell by what people say or how they say it that there is more going on with them, I guess I have been reading for a long enough time to see differences.

Sometimes my family gets a little out of sorts when I am on here, but it is something I must do. There is just something about this forum that cannot be found anywhere else and it's true, it is sort of an extended family, but better.

Greybeard---You my friend are a needed voice in this place! Thanks for starting this thread.
