I remember the sad photo of people trying to clear London runways with snowblowers. Snowblowers! This barely classifies as snow removal in NY.

Noo York looks like more of a big slushy than a big apple.

Look, I know you guys are having a hard time with arctic temps and ten foot snow drifts bringing society to a grinding halt.
But please spare a thought for us poor souls in the southern hemisphere's warmer climes.
It's over 100F here just about most days, my beer gets warm after only ten minutes, it's terrible.

As soon as I get out of the pool, I feel like I need to get back in almost immediately, leaving very little time left for important tasks like.... filling the ice dishes in the freezer so our evening mohitos are kept cool enough to appreciate the full piquancy of the fresh lime.
So please, no more complaints about the cold, it's just a little insensitive, I'm sure you can appreciate that, Pat.

Aww bless you Pat.

I was on a RAF base the other day and surprised to find the run way... well missing in action! I was told they USED to use two jet engines strapped to a bowser which was effectively the fuel tank. They'd then hit the start button and drag it up and down the runway using them as "snow blowers".

This seemed quite a good idea and I wondered why they didn't still do this.

Apparently if "things went wrong" the jet engines could take off and end up in the likes of Germany. Would this invasion count as a declaration of war?

I'm not sure. But I was very grateful for the guard on the gate (remembering that normally at such bases you are greeted with a guard and a BIG gun) to put down this spade (this still being impressively big) long enough to tell me this (he also told me it was "unprofessional" for him to build snow men).

I'm with Pistol_Pete on this one! I'm permanently trapped indoors staying close to my aircons! I'm not going ANYWHERE in this heat! I'd melt for sure! You guys n gals are purely trying to make us jealous with all your talk and pictures of snow and the likes.. That's not "nice"! ;-)

Hahaha @ Clara.. I could just picture the guards in their uniforms, building snowmen and having snowball fights.. Lmao.. ;-)

Deep apologies to the southern continents for such insensitivity. Competitive suffering may be classified as an olympic event in 2014.

Must confess I downloaded the photo from the internet from the safety of the perfect, 65 degree Taiwan weather.

Talking of which, are you going to amend the Up State New York entry in your profile?

Well, depends. Not a declaration of war, in fact.

If the jet engines arrive safe and sound and in good condition, they would be considered as 'state presents', offered to Mrs Merkel. Thanks.

If they arrive destroyed, in pieces, they would be considered 'problematic litter', difficult and expensive to get rid of (environmentally safely), thus costing your state a lot of money.

How good is UK quality?

Great photo, Pat. Wonderful snow here too - and we still manage quite well, except for Frankfurt Airport at times and other smaller problems. I couldn't care less. Safely at home here.

Pete and Smiley: ah well. Poor, poor you, I'm so sorry ..... =) Send some sunshine over and a few degrees of heat .... I can tolerate! =)

Funny enough.. During the world cup the weather here was unusually chilly for that time of year.. We all used to joke that it was all the extra air traffic, carrying our hot weather out and y'alls cold weather in.. Lol.. ;-)

Though it's bad taste to say it, If things had gone differently 65 years ago, well this might all have been so different!

I was given a t-shirt from a Leipzig bikers club, and the 1st thing I noticed was that it was in English!

Personally, if I were german, I'd be trying to get rid of the euro millstone round my neck. Seems they're paying for everyone now. Maybe Merkel has designs on the Euro Presidency?

LOL guido!
Don't worry about taste - yeah, that's just the way it is.
Sure, we speak and write and think English when we want to show we're clever and cosmopolitan (so unlike the French).
All that euro crap? Definitely awful. Somehow it seems German government feels the necessitiy to be part of Europe (right in the centre) and to accept that kind of responsibility. People don't even complain much - we feel our economy is still quite strong, fortunately, and we just have to (and for the moment still can) pay. That's part of our history, I feel.
Merkel's plan? ha ha - perhaps!

TOPIC???

It's still snowing here, we run out of salt for the streets, our trains are quite uncharacteristically inefficient, but most people are on holiday and just enjoy. =) (me too)

Well, it's funny but Germany keeps creeping into my life, between Leipzig, suppliers in Berlin, a German cousin (fab wife of my cousin), friends living there. And it's a large part of the drive between here and Serbia!

Definite difference between Ossies and Wessies!

And keeping this on topic... What were those snowflakes this morning about??? F*** Off... Posted Image

guido: I started a new topic on this. I much fear Tetra's wrath .... we're hijacking the thread a bit, aren't we?

tetra: sorry! Still snow here but melting. And yes - there's a lot more snow in East Germany, but they can't drive when the streets are snowy (those Ossies). (smiley needed?)

what is this thing snow??? after the temp sitting between 40 (110) and 46 (115) for the last week I am guessing we won't see any snow here. Although we are still waiting for the water from all the flooding in the state to peak later this month.
