Hi,

Reported on the evening news if a three year old child eats" lots of processed foods" regularly, by age eight their brain capacity will be greatly diminished .... the formative years being the most crucial.

Isobar, you make some great points that I agree with.

I understand that MOST people can make their own choice about weight, sexuality and even gender. What I don't understand or agree with is why the MAJORITY of individuals who are grossly obese choose to harm their bodies. In the U.S. suicide is illegal. We know that the morbidly obese are slowly killing themselves(Diabetes, high blood pressure, Heart failure, high cholesterol etc...). Why is this form of suicide acceptable? Some have health issues that dictate their weight, bummer. But what about the majority that choose to allow themselves to spiral out of control.

Ibelieve a person can make their own choice about weight because it does not affect me for the most part.

Consider the mass of individuals on the public dole that do not keep healthy. Consider all of the diabetic supplies and medical bills due to obesity that are paid for by taxpaying citizens like me. Obesity affects me by taking dollars out of my pocket. This may sound petty to some but valid none the less.

There, that ought to stir the pot a little bit. I enjoy playing the Devil's advocate once in a while.

Hurb ;)

As spoken by one who has not yet met the downside of aging. I, too,, at your age, Hurb,, had no problem with weight control. My metabolism was such that I could ( and did) eat what I wanted. While I might put on ten lb in a week,, i could lose it over the weekend.

Such is no longer the case. Both by reason of my limited mobility,, increasse pain,, my exercise time is down,,, but, by reason of my advancing years,, the effect is multiplied. I sincersly hope that you turn out to be of the minority, who don't have the latter problem,,, for it is a problem.

As to the issue of costing you money because I'm fat,,,and there is no doubt about the fat,,,, consider that we fatties die sooner than you healthy types,, thereby costing less as we are not around as long. Hope that relieves your fears.

Thanks hurb,,I was hoping for another barn burner issue to get the the juices ,,, and the tempers,,, heated up........ I don't think this will be one,,,, but it was better than nothing.

Glad it didn't get you riled up, Ed. Got me plenty pissed off though. You are displaying plain, stupid ignorance hurb, - not to mention intolerance, and I for one would prefer that you kept your prejudices to yourself.

Don't take any notice of me Hurb. Everyone knows I'm a grouchy old git. :ranting:

On serious reflection, I realize that you do actually have a point about choosing what we eat and how much exercise we take - things that impact on our future dimensions. (Not sure I agree about your other examples). But as Ed said, the longer you manage to make these old bodies last, the harder it gets to control stuff. And the weight gaining thing is sneaky. It creeps up on you, and before you know it the undertaker's wondering where the hell he's gonna get the extra wood from, and whether he can find enough strong blokes to lift your carcase.
I think there's a warning in there somewhere! :mfrlol:

The truth of the matter is that, for me, good food and wine are about the only real indulgences I have left - and I'll be damned if I'm gonna give 'em up now. Not even to save you a penny or two in taxes, Hurb. Sorry.

I do see Hurbs point and I would agree.....up to a point! I am mobile and up to the present time I am able to keep to a reasonable weight. However I had an op' last week and have stitches in 'till next Friday. So I am supposed to be taking it easy. I did nothing over the last weekend , other than watch the Rugby. I swear I could feel the pounds creeping on.

My husband as well as being a C5 has other health issues and has used an electric wheelchair for the last few years. He has always had a small 'tetra belly'. He has started to put a bit more wieght on than he would like. Am I worried....NO.

I agree with the Grumpy Old Git :mfrlol:

I am a very good cook. I love to cook. I like to try new recipes as well as his favourites One of the few pleasures left to my husband is the enjoyment he gets from a lovely meal cooked by me.

He has had so many of his interests curtailed due to health issues. However he helps and supports me in things I want to do. He is one in a million.

Kudos to all lifestyles! I can be a bit of a young know-it-all punk. I eat lunch with 5 other teachers, the youngest being 52, myself 38. The 5 were bitchin about typical politics, inequalities n the like. I suggested that there are options. They could always quit n find a job where they don't get summers off, every holiday and a week off for T-day, Christmas and Winter & Spring break. Well, they didn't like that. Acted like I pissed in their Wheaties! A guy with 23 yrs in and 7 to go doesn't want to hear about options I guess.

Oh, is this topic already fizzled out...damn I've been missing all the fun...my weight gain started when they left my feeding tube in for five months, 3 months longer than I was already eating on my own...thus they pumped me up good...over 55 pounds...add the drugs like Lyrica and the inactivity, and I've become someBODY else...omg, I really did become someBODY else, it is true...HEY! Who stole my body and left me with this inept fat useless thing???

And yes isobar, thanks for the facts...this nations allows the suicide by fat content, but disallows Dr. K's only Special K's...

It's part of the dumbing down of Amerikans anyway, why look at voting...just watch for the next president sure to be Republican and to be elected by the masses are asses...
