I understand that MOST people can make their own choice about weight, sexuality and even gender. What I don't understand or agree with is why the MAJORITY of individuals who are grossly obese choose to harm their bodies. In the U.S. suicide is illegal. We know that the morbidly obese are slowly killing themselves(Diabetes, high blood pressure, Heart failure, high cholesterol etc...). Why is this form of suicide acceptable? Some have health issues that dictate their weight, bummer. But what about the majority that choose to allow themselves to spiral out of control.
Ibelieve a person can make their own choice about weight because it does not affect me for the most part.
Consider the mass of individuals on the public dole that do not keep healthy. Consider all of the diabetic supplies and medical bills due to obesity that are paid for by taxpaying citizens like me. Obesity affects me by taking dollars out of my pocket. This may sound petty to some but valid none the less.
There, that ought to stir the pot a little bit. I enjoy playing the Devil's advocate once in a while.

Such is no longer the case. Both by reason of my limited mobility,, increasse pain,, my exercise time is down,,, but, by reason of my advancing years,, the effect is multiplied. I sincersly hope that you turn out to be of the minority, who don't have the latter problem,,, for it is a problem.
As to the issue of costing you money because I'm fat,,,and there is no doubt about the fat,,,, consider that we fatties die sooner than you healthy types,, thereby costing less as we are not around as long. Hope that relieves your fears.
Thanks hurb,,I was hoping for another barn burner issue to get the the juices ,,, and the tempers,,, heated up........ I don't think this will be one,,,, but it was better than nothing.

Don't take any notice of me Hurb. Everyone knows I'm a grouchy old git.
On serious reflection, I realize that you do actually have a point about choosing what we eat and how much exercise we take - things that impact on our future dimensions. (Not sure I agree about your other examples). But as Ed said, the longer you manage to make these old bodies last, the harder it gets to control stuff. And the weight gaining thing is sneaky. It creeps up on you, and before you know it the undertaker's wondering where the hell he's gonna get the extra wood from, and whether he can find enough strong blokes to lift your carcase.
I think there's a warning in there somewhere!
The truth of the matter is that, for me, good food and wine are about the only real indulgences I have left - and I'll be damned if I'm gonna give 'em up now. Not even to save you a penny or two in taxes, Hurb. Sorry.

My husband as well as being a C5 has other health issues and has used an electric wheelchair for the last few years. He has always had a small 'tetra belly'. He has started to put a bit more wieght on than he would like. Am I worried....NO.
I agree with the Grumpy Old Git
I am a very good cook. I love to cook. I like to try new recipes as well as his favourites One of the few pleasures left to my husband is the enjoyment he gets from a lovely meal cooked by me.
He has had so many of his interests curtailed due to health issues. However he helps and supports me in things I want to do. He is one in a million.
