I'm a T8 para & I've had ridiculous spasticity while trying to in & out cath. I'll "frog" my legs and as soon as I wipe or even touch my vagina that makes my legs spasm. This causes my legs to straighten out completely, making it really hard to have the patience to cath. It happens atleast 7 or 8 times before it calms down. Just started happening in the past 2 weeks. Maybe increased spasticity from a UTI? Any ideas or suggestions are always greatly appreciated.

Spasticity is known to increase if something else is wrong, so definitely check out the UTI theory.. Also do a thorough inspection to ensure there aren't any indications of other problems developing, pressure sores, in grown nails, bowel problems, etc..

My spasms just got worse and worse with no outside contributing factors till I was forced to go on a permanent Foley catheter as I could no longer fight the legs to even gain access anymore.. When in hospital it takes 3, count them THREE, nurses to change my catheters or do catheter care, one for each leg, and one to do the deed..

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your problem is easily resolved.. ;-)

Just thought about it.. Do you use a mirror to cath? If not, you should maybe get one and check for thrush as that would cause sensitivity to touch too, thus setting the legs off..

Hope things are getting better.. ;-)
