That is VERY funny Ed!! I was out there with him because he was on the riding lawn mower (which has the snow plow) cleaning off our church parking lot!:) If I had a plow, we could do it in half the time!:)

I love my free wheel!! I wish I had business cards for it the amount of cripples who ask about it and take a test demo with it when I'm out.

To the person in Virginia who wrote:

The FreeWheel costs approximately $500 and can be purchased from; among other sources, Wheelchair Cushion Sage ( https://www.wheelcha...accessories.php ) by calling and asking for it.

Thanks for posting that, I'm actually considering getting one of those off sportaid for the deep snow or sand but was wondering if it'd be effective. Think I might invest in one!

On firm damp sand it wouldn't be a problem. Not sure about deep, dry, loose sand though. I suspect anything without tracks would have trouble with that.

Mimi - go for it. I PROMISE you, you will not be disappointed!! I am not their rep, but I should be.:) As active as you are anyway, you will love it!

As far as the sand goes, I tried it in deep sand and the FreeWheel was great in the sand. But.....my back wheels were not!! The FreeWheel stayed on top and rolled but my back wills just sunk up to my axles. This was in deep soft sand. I have the little Marathon Schwalbe tires so I don't know if the knotty tires would help and make sand easier. So - FreeWheel great. Back tires - awful!:) The lower packed sand was fine.

You will notice the greatest ease in grass, gravel, cracks....you really don't even have to be careful. We have a hill that goes down beside our house. We also have a lot of groundhogs that love to do chaos on our backyard. I have made it down that hill one time without falling out of my chair. It was out of pure determination because I was tired of being "thrown off my horse" and I was going to conquer it or die trying! I finally made it through a series of wheelies and c..r..e..e...p..i...n..g! When I got my FreeWheel in the mail, that is the first spot I tried. I flew down that hill and as I leveled off into my backyard, I had my hands up in the air like I was pretending to fly. You all know that you don't go across a bumpy yard of grass with your hands up in the air and remain in your seat on your backside!! I was sold on it's value right then!

I purchased freewheel few months back and I am finding it worth investment. No more worrying about small stone/cracks/bumps on the road, freewheel roles over smoothly. Works very well on uneven surface, easy to go over grass/gravel. I would recommend it for anyone living outdoor. On smooth surface it does not make much difference.

Only problem I had was that it broke my footplate, but I could get it welded easily. I have been using freewheel a lot, pushing about 10-14 miles a week and on very rough roads in India for a week, so I do not consider it as major issue.

Agree with Rue2you regarding sand, it will be your back wheel that stopping you. Freewheel tyre is wide and not too much weight goes on it. I tried it in snow and only thing stopping me was my back tyres.

When I posted this video, I did not have this opportunity, but now I do (they like my video!):). If you are going to buy a FreeWheel, please let me know! I have been offered a "small" incentive reward since I am so enthusiastic about it. So, if you don't mind, would you let me know and then I can send them your name and they will put your name with mine for my "advertising." Thank you!

Edit: Oh, you also need to order it through www.gofreewheel.com and not through Sportaid so they can keep track of it for me. Thanks!
