A small comic book publisher in the US has a new comic out called Soldier Zero. The concept was created by Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, and the story is written by Paul Cornell, a British writer who's done a lot of comics and science-fiction over the years.

The main character is a wheelchair user, a former soldier injured in the Middle East, and there's a secondary character using a wheelchair too.

The comic's good, and Mr Cornell clearly did some research on wheelchair users. There's a great "first date" scene, and some great use of "don't help me" too. The science-fiction/super-hero element works, and has an interesting twist on it, although of course there's wish fulfillment to it as well. A few lines and scenes are a bit off, but overall, I think they're doing great work. I just got #1-4, #5 comes out next month.

And no, I don't work for the publisher!

Sounds pretty cool! Nice to see us as something other than JUST "oh that poor cripple"!

*Wheelchairs are made of a special ocular magnetic alloy......they're "eyeball magnets".*
*I USE a wheelchair, that does NOT make ME a wheelchair!*
