Tom, congrats....it was beautifully written. I actually shared the story with my colleagues at work on that day (we have a sharing session every morning)....they were moved. I happen to be in Paris for the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and I can't tell you how moved I was during testimonials of survivors....

Excellent, Tom!

What is amazing to me is the fact that there are still to this day with so much information available, some who still don't believe that this happened, nor do they acknowledge what is happening in countries as we speak. There is a simple out-of-sight, out-of-mind factor that can keep people blinded in their everyday lives to the horrors that go on even now.

It is vital to remember these things, to value human life. It is the value we put on human life that makes the difference in our actions. For those of us who do not know these experiences personally through relatives or friends, it is especially important to to learn about these things, the horrible things humans are capable of to avoid repeating history.

What I cannot get my head around are those medical people who just follow orders or really anyone who would follow someone's instructions to the letter without regard for what they are doing to human beings, thinking they are not responsible for the actions of their own hands, that the responsibility lies somewhere up the ladder. It is not only the murders of these people, we must remember, but also the tortures done in the name of 'science'.

Thank you Tom for sharing this with us. I have appreciated it deeply.

Great speech Tom. Thanks for having the courage to give it. I knew nothing of this part of the Holocaust. Thanks for enlightening me.

Should also say - it'll never again happen in Germany, its people now question decisions
DD, but the truth is that the vast majority of the atrocities did not take place in Germany, they took place in Poland, Russia, and the now Eastern European states. The atrocities took place with the knowledge, and co-operation of the local people, and let me tell you, that deep seated hatred is still very much alive. It should be remembered that pogroms took place after WW2 when Jewish survivors of the death camps tried to return to their towns in Poland, and where instantly murdered by the locals who did not want them back. It would take very little effort for there to be another Holocaust in Europe, as we have already seen in Bosnia. It is really quite scary how little we have learned, but then I have to say I am surprised (reading through this thread) how little people know about the Holocaust.
