Hi, I have been wheelchair bound for 12 years in August. I'm para T-6 T-7. About a year & half ago I lost use of my left hand. I have no musle tone left in that hand can't grasp or pinch. So my Dr. had MRI done & found that there was a pocket of fluid built up in the spinal cord C-5 or C-6 not for sure which one. So Dr. did surgery & put a shunt in there to drain the fluid. Dr. said that it was very inflamed. After surgery when I come to he asked me if there was anything different? I said no still the same. All the fluid caused pressure on the spinal cord. Thats what caused the lose of mobility to my hand but I get along.A few months later my Dr. suggested to go to Mayo Clinic in Rocester MN. We seen a Dr. there that does surgery with the hands & arms. They said that they could do surgery but there is always pros & cons. With any surgery & he said that there could take a chance of something that working now that may not work after surgery. Dr. said that this surgery would inable me with grasp & pinch. But not to the full effect as before. Just checking to see if anybody has been or knows of anybody that has had this procedure done? :)
