Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly hit and run. Tuesday evening, 20-year-old John Kennedy was hit along Velp Avenue while he was in his wheelchair. He later died from his injuries.
They arrested a 39-year-old suspect Friday morning. The arrest happened north of the city. Police also took his truck, to process it for evidence.
Authorities did not know if sidewalk conditions may have played a role in the hit-and-run. Kennedy was wheelchair-bound and earlier this week police said he may have been in the road because the sidewalk was not properly shoveled. That's what inspired some of Kennedy's co-workers and friends to clear the sidewalks in that area Friday morning.
It is unclear at this time who owns the sidewalk where the crash happened and who is responsible for keeping it shoveled.

I can tell you from experience that these sidewalks are horrendous. Stories like this make me fear leaving the house, and I start college classes tomorrow. Such a tragedy, but at the very least, people and businesses alike will open their eyes and see how important it is to have sidewalks cleared.
