Hi my name is Carrie. My boyfriend was injured in an accident November of last year. I have told his family of this site because honestly this site saves me on a daily basis. The amount of information here is amazing. The support and guidance you give one another is such a gift. I am so happy we will all have a place where we can come to get answers, information and share our own journey. Reading so many of your stories continually rejuvenates my faith, strength and hope for our future together. I have told him about this site and he is excited about all he, his family and I will be able to learn. Grateful does not seem a big enough word to describe finding this site. So I am grateful, thankful and blessed to find all of you :)
Thank you,
Carrie

Welcome Carrie, Carrie's bf and family. I feel the same way about the site. And the members on it, although we're all so far apart in proximity of one another, have come to feel like a second family to me.

Glad you've found us!Posted Image

Thank you for your response. You have the same injury as my fiance. Although we do not know if he is complete or not yet. So can you imagine the questions I must have for you? How about everything. I am so excited about the future. So many people ask me if he and I are ready for the road ahead. He survived his injury so as long as I have him on this path with me I believe we can conquer anything. Not sure when he is getting out rehab is interrupted by frequent bouts of pneumonia. He is so frustrated, aggravated, depressed, angry, tired on top of being sick with fever from pneumonia. On top of that he is in Ohio and I am in Florida. I have gone up every month for 4 day trips since injury. His family is amazing and his mother is an amazing mom and coordinator of his care. He has lots of support, love and visits from them. When he is well he is moving in with me. For now in between visits I study, research, read as much as I can about his injury. Have a great night. Thank you for your response.

I too have found this site to truly be a God-send with a quirky collective of angels that tend to to be just as able to comfort as to give a swift kick in the arse when called for. :toast: Sorry you & your BF were in NEED of our site......but glad you've been finding the information AND comfort to keep your chin up. And welcome to the whole gang......you, BF, AND the BF's family.

Hi Carrie - My daughter is 25 and is a recent c5/c6 incomplete, also having problems with pneumonia. Her car accident was Sept. 10th and was discharged from the hospital in December..back in twice since that for pneumonia. One of those visits she had to be intubated because her o2 sats were so low.

She was just about to start clinicals for nursing and getting engaged, until he could not take it and left her while she was in the hospital. I can't imagine what goes through her mind. She has a 4 yr old daughter who she cant take care of. She is so depressed and doesnt want to live.

Of course, her incomplete dignosis gives her a little hope of walking again, but there are some horrible days for her. I guess I am just looking for someone to chat with who can relate. She won't talk to anyone in her condiditon or anyone else for that matter. We are going to Punta Cana next month, so I am hoping this will see that she can live on.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Deb, welcome to the site...you could also start your own thread so that more people will welcome you, and in the carer's forum, in order for you to benefit from the info and support here:

Welcome Carrie....you have such a positive attitude and and inquiring mind, that can only be good for both of you on this journey. I can almost hear your excitement, what a god-send that is for someone like your bf who is coming to terms with a life changing event. I wish you both the best...and as so many have expressed, ask questions, this site is full of amazing people!

My daughter is also depressed. She was going to be shipped to Afghanistan in Oct. but she had her accident in July. All her friends but 2 has left her. She constantly says why did she make it and not the other 2. All I can tell her is that she was saved for a reason, and I'm there for her and I will not leave. I know I'm not a boyfriend or a friend but I care more than than they did.
Just be there for her and assure her that her daughter needs her more than anything. And dont give up. It will take time.

My daughter is still trying to deal with what happened to her.
