Please tune in this Sunday 20th February at 4.55pm to see Richard Hammond and Melanie Reid front a BBC appeal for Spinal Research - to help us raise awareness of the need to invest in research to repair the injured spinal cord.

Although we think SCI is a big thing and needs major funding
That is not the way it's percieved by the majority of citazens
So nought will come of it
It's a minority injury and needs goverment aid to raise the research needed, which of course because of the banks spending all the goverment cash, wont happen
So unless there is a major epademic of SCI injuries - dream on

I hate to sound cynical, but I think he's right. We are a minority group and, therefore, not given priority when it comes to funding. The money is often ploughed into more common conditions that affect a far higher number of people, ie, cancer. While I certainly don't begrudge these people the help they get (they are worthy causes), I do feel that SCI sufferers are somewhat forgotten. And we have no chance of a cure as yet, we just have to pick up the pieces and carry on somehow.
