Hey everyone I am new to this space. My son was injured on Nov.22 lifting weights. He broke C1, C2 and crushed C5,C6,C7 doc has diagnosed him as C6 complete. I have learned so much by reading but it is overwhelming. He is in a rehab center right now but they want to move him to a nursing home soon but I am fighting that. He is very optamistic about his future he has movement in his arms but nothing in his hands or fingers. He has n feeling from mid torso down. I don't know what to expect in the future with all of this. He is planning on moving to FL with his girlfriend soon. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in my life. My husband had a massive stroke six yrs ago and I just recently had a hip/femur replacement done and we are not able to take care of him. His girlfriend is standing by him and adamant she wants him there. She has flown up to Ohio on three different occasions and is standing by him. He has severe pain in his right shoulder, arm and wrist and burning in his hand. He is gaining strenth every day but I just don't know what to expect. Can anyone give me any advice on this?

Mom, judging from what you've told us, he has the right mind set and support to be able to do anything he's ever wanted to in life.

I know you're worried about him, and you're right to second guess sending him to a nursing home. It's so unnecessary when many in his shoes are able to live on their own with minimal to no care required. Be thankful his gf is still there and see where his independence gets him.

Hey lady it's Carrie. So glad I found you on here. Tons of information and friendly people for us to learn and vent with. He is in warren, Ohio currently Rue2you. Qbounce girlfriend is me and I am learning and ready for everything. He survived the injury and that is what I prayed for so from here on out he has a life long partner in me. His mom and his family are amazingly supportive so I know although we will all have our days we have many things to look forward to and I am very blessed and excited.

HI there
a C6-7 quad can be very independent! All it takes is some creative thinking, practice and focus, and some assistive devices! Your son and his girlfriend will make a plan with all things, and ask for help when they need to. It will be a challenge to them both individually (and for you) and a challenge for them together. Keep supporting them, and they need to keep asking for help and suggestions as they face obstacles.
Best wishes to everyone!

i would like to offer best wishes for your son. please ask him to keep working with the pt and ot. he'll probably cont. to improve for some time. we are all different but there is a good chance someone on here is similar. have him join so he can ask questions to a vet. there is always free advice just for the asking. a nursing home should not be needed . that could be a depressing place at his age. his girl friend would benefit here also.
