Before I get in to this I should mention that I am still taking meds but am hopeful that I will be off them eventually..
Not long after my accident I had a few visits by a Tetra who had been in a chair for 10 years. One of the things he warned me about was hypersensitive areas of pain. He also said it can be treated by stroking the area with a feather until it no longer hurts, then using a towel and progressing all the way to sand paper until the area no longer causes any pain. I was never afflicted by any such pain but begin to wonder if spasm could be treated in the same manor, It's still nerves causing the problem after all.
In the absence of a pet bird I used the shower. I would hold the nozzle close to my side and slowly move it up and down around the area that caused the most spasm. To start with my left leg would fly out and I would be thrown back against the wall. Over time the muscle would still lock up but would not kick out. Now, about 4 months later, my muscle will stay relaxed as I move the shower head around.
Having said that, if I sneak up on myself I still have a fairly violent spasm. But there is definite improvement and I'm confident that this will continue..
Anyway, just thought I would share..

I too find that my spasms are more relaxed after a shower, but only for an hour or two.. That's one of the reasons I love my shower! Lol.. A nice cool shower in the morning to get me going for the day, and a nice warm shower in the evening to get me ready for bed, and sometimes a few in between due to the heat here..

What's important is not what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us..

Taking three hot baths a day has reduced my intake of bacoflen and opiates drasticly. Soaking in hot water defintely tames the spasms, spasticlty and muscle tightness for a few hours with no side-effects except a higher water bill....I also find it easier and less painful to do my stretching exersices in the hot water and the quiet setting provides a great place for meditating and practicing relaxation techniques as well..
