I am a post polio para using manuallchair but no longer able to crawl up stairs. I am visiting friends who have a 14 step carpeted straight staircase to the bathroom and bedroom.

There's no one available to pull me up. My weight including the chair is 200 lbs (14 stone)

I was thinking that an affordable removable solution might be an electric winch and cable fixed to the chair, and possibly a planked surface over which the wheelchair, with me in it, could be pulled up backwards.

Has anyone tried this?

Not sure how to anchor the winch.

Any ideas on a winch solution appreciated, or suggestions of other forums I could try.

Eric

I think looking for hotels in the neighbourhood would be a much better option..
Ignoring the dangers for a moment anchoring the winch will leave a pretty scar after you leave. And then of course there are the dangers..
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me, "Smile and be happy, things could be worse." So I smiled and was happy and behold things did get worse.
