So, as some of you know, I've been dealing with a stage 4 pressure sore coming up on 2 yrs in June. I've had a hard time healing it cause (1) bedrest gets so old (Ill take responsibility for that.) And (2) because its so close to my ass I've had more infections than I can count on my hand! Including osteomylitis twice. Been on so many i.v. antibiotics its ridiculous a hickman port in my chest...you get the pic.

The wound clinic I go to has tried so many things to no success and told me they couldn't find anyone to do muscle flap surgery. Resources are limited here, but I'm not sure how hard they tried. I hadn't seen my old rehab doc from TIRR in 3 yrs cause of the distance, but found out last week he moved to St. Davids in Austin and he saw me Tuesday. I caught him up on my med. history and the man...bless him...got me into a plastic surgeon at a different hospital the same day! Now I'm just waiting on a few things (labs, paperwork, etc) and he's going to do the surgery!!! Then Ill go to rehab to heal up and get some strength back. I got so weak.
I'm so excited to know I'll finally be putting this behind me. I know I still have some bedrest ahead, but I already feel so free! Take it easy yall...

Damn Mike, 2 years is a long time, man.
I know the feeling.
Glad you can finally see the light through the tunnel!!

And your right about the sitting routine after the flap surgery. You're looking at a TOTAL of 6 - 8 months of scheduled sitting time in the chair before you can finally be up as long as you wish.

In Hospital
1. Clinitron bed: Laying on your back to heal the wound. 4-5 weeks
2. A sitting routine: Getting in the chair in 1/2 hour increments until you're able to stay up in the chair a total of 6 hours. Discharge 3-4 weeks

At Home
3. Sitting no more than 6 hours a day for 3 months
4. Sitting no more than 8 hours a day an additional 2 months, and NO ROLLER COASTERS or HYDRAULIC CARS (my Doc's advice)

Everyone's routine is different, of course. I went through this in 2006-07, and spent Christmas, New Years Day, and my B-day (Jan.24th) in the hospital healing my flap surgery. So I remember my time there very well, and it wasn't easy at times. But it sure as hell was a sight better, knowing it was actually HEALED, to withstand the remainder of what was expected of me to ensure the integrity of the flap. God Speed . . .

I understand that it will take another year of care after the surgery, CAREFUL CARE, before you can get a life back, but damn!!!!!Bless your rehab guy. it seems, in general, doctors will not work hard for us unless they know us.
