sometimes I just don't know what to to do. I roll up my hand and arm in the heating pad. I go to the bathroom and sit in the shower and just run hot waterr around the sites. I try erercising the arm -- but still the fingers are still tight and feel like webs of a fish and unflexible. with the assistance of my other hand I bend and unbend the fingers. the arm and hand look a little bloated in comparison to the other hand which is not affected with the paralysis. I do take baclofin 3 x at 10 mg along with Lyrica but I am sleepy much of the day and often doze off (which usually feels good). I have the paralysis from the fingers to the elbow and then 9 weeks ago I fell off a small stool and fractured my upper arm bone near the shoulder on that same side. I wore a sling for 5 weeks and then came out of the sling. The bone is still healing and gradually I am getting more mobility but it does seem like the spasming of the hand palm and muscle from the wrist to elbow is much tighter and really driving me crazy. I got an injection of botox 2 weeks ago but the dr tried putting it in a different place and it doesn't seem to be working at all. the first time i got botox was last yr november and it made a significant difference in the spasticity but now it is not working. it could be the difference in the way the dr placed the injections and it could have something to do with the upper arm fracture which also has affected the whole arm, and also it having been immobilized in the sling for 5 weeks. Has anyone experienced some of these similar problems? I'm going crazy over this "sleepless in seattle". help.

Barbara,

I imagine the long time immobile may play a role, as most of us see an increase in spasms just from not moving for a while. So maybe it will let up after a period of returning to normal use, such as it is.

This is really bad news and I am sorry to hear it.

I agree, as you already thought, your muscles are likely trying to stay active on their own from lack of movement. I recommend seeing a Physiatrist who specializes in physical therapy treatment. He can evaluate your situation and take the best course of action. Before sedating your muscles further, I'd get a referral for a specialist.

Hi barbie 999

I too get this even though I am t-spine, it started coming on lately.

I agree about the botox, it could have been in the wrong place. I dont know about you but I was soooooooooo ill and in agony when I had mine and I'm wondering if me body has arranged its own anti-botox fighting agents - so that next time I have it, it wont work? I hope not.As I loved botox and it was worth a few days of agony.

By reading this post, I have just decided to keep to the same sites I had me last injections as they worked fantastic (in me back) although the one in the shoulder did nothing, infact it caused more trouble, so maybe it just dosnt work in certain muscles? I hope very much you get well soon.
