I had such a great time this past weekend! They had a vintage motocross event in Marshall, Texas that some of my old high school friends invited me to. At first because of the distance, I almost didn't go. I'm so glad I did, I haven't seen my friends or the bikes that were there for 35 years. It was wonderful! Brought back many fine memories and made new ones. The weather was nice except it got pretty cold at night. I got a motel room the first two nights, while all my friends camped out at the event. So the last night I decided to rough it and camp out with them. We stayed up around the campfire most of the night and had a great time, drinking whiskey and talking old times. I woke up later that morning and someone noticed I had third degree burns on my legs, I had evidently stayed at the fire too long. So off to the emergency room I went to get treated, they said it was pretty bad. I had slow roasted myself pretty good, kinda felt foolish for not thinking about me not being able to feel my legs and the possibility of burning myself and not knowing until it was too late. I sure had a great time, best time I can recall in years! But I'm soooo stupid for not thinking, I will remember next time, maybe me sharing this will keep this from happening to someone else out there. :)

Hey, I am so happy you had a great time! Too bad about the burns, though, sorry, really, good thing a friend noticed...I hope you heal well and fast...

Better then burning on a muffler, errrr or not...

We seem to so easily burn, break, bash and bang things...

Thank you for the warning to be careful!

I am so sorry you got burned and I can relate, I was sitting around a fire with my family and my legs got bruised really bad from the fire; I got distracted since I had not been out in some time and some of my distant family I had not seen in some time, so I got caught up in the moment.

I wish you a fast and a full recovery and thank you for warning others too.

Happens to us all. I think,, but that's where that saying about once bitten twice shy, comes in. You WILL remember. On the plus side,, those kind of blisters usually heal pretty well if you watch over them. At least, mine did. Takes a while, tho.

You'll remember the weekend longer than the burn, I'm sure.

I'm so sorry to hear about your burn (OUCH!)

I hope you heal quickly. I suppose there are advantages and disadvantages to being able to feel. I'm guessing you aren't in much pain I hope.

Don't be so hard on yourself, you were having a good time. I've known AB people who have gotten burnt that way like passing out drunk by the fire. It's good that you posted as a warning for others.

My hubby is also a C5,6,7 incomplete, but he has full feeling. Actually hypersensitive on the left side, so I never worry about him when we sit around the firepit in the back yard.

Get better soon.

Burning yourself when you have nosensation is all too easily done. Don't be harsh on yourself - you were having a good time and forgot - can happen to everyone really.

You'll probably never repeat the same mistake again - so lesson learned and move on and focus on getting well.

Hope you will have a good recovery without any further complications.

Rollingtrouble,

Great news that you are back in action again. Let the coming scar be a badge to remind you of great times.

make20a20mistake.jpg While the doctor said the burns were pretty deep, constant cleaning (one in the morning, one in the evening) and the burn creme he gave me should work just fine. I guess I'm fortunate not to be able to feel it because it looks like it would hurt :) I'll be just fine, and will remember it in the future for sure! Live and learn right?

Call it a learning moment. You'll remember to consider such things in the future, having done it once.

Some of us, namely me, are slow learners, though. May you not fall in the same catagory as I.

Rollingtrouble, I'm so glad you enjoyed those moments. They are precious -- unforgettable. May your wounds heal soon. But don't regret the evening!

Sounds like a blast! I did something similar. We had a wicked 20 below day this winter and I couldn't get warm. I had an electric space heater next to me. I went to move it, not realizing I was pushing on the hot metal surface, (thought it was the side with safety plastic on it. I could sense the heat, not really feeling the burn. Pulled my hand away and saw nothing. I thought I got away without incident. Later that night I went to scratch my nose. Well, the blisters caught on my mustache and blew up in my face, yuck!

Hurb ;)

Ouch is all I can think of lol

I haven't had it to that seriousness, but have left my legs too close to those plug-in heater things and woke up with them pretty red and swollen.. I can't imagine how long it took you to heal from a 3rd degree burn.. takes like 6 months for a deep bruise to go away, sometimes.

this truly sucks!!!

ive had a couple 2 degree burns, without me knowing it of course, and by things i wouldnt even think twice about but I DO NOW!!! that the thing THINK TWICE, THREE TIMES about stuff. once it was cold inside so i sat with a blanket on over my legs infront of the heater, not right on it but sat infront for a few minutes, later that night, i had burns all over the top of my thighs.

and...

heres the doozy, i was in costco tastig samples, they had chicken noodle soup in paper cups, mine was really hot so i added an extra cup and put it between my thighs. the cup had a hole in it, i didn't realize and all the hot soup leaked between my thighs. i came away with at least a severe 2 degree burn on my inner thighs, about the size of an apple. it was HORRIBLE, took months to heal and there's still a scar there.

now, i don't put microwave dinners on top of my lap. and i think TWICE about every possible warm thing i have near the body...it can be disasterious
