This is a repeat of an earlier thread I posted, but renamed now in case it was missed...if you are trying to help a Loves One, are seeking help yourself, need equipment, home remodel, van modifications, etc., there may be help...please read this thread for some info that may be useful:

http://www.apparelyz...323#entry217323

There are programs to send caregivers/help to your home...some federally funded, state-operated....geared toward keeping us disabled individuals in our homes, in our communities, not warehoused in a smelly nursing home, lacking even essential care...

There are even programs to pay YOU for caring for your Loved one...

Programs to assist with the remodel of your home, and the modification of a vehicle...

Also added HUD information...for housing assistance...

Just take a big breath, and please be prepared to fight in certain states, but persevere, help is here!

And, for US Veterans, there are several more programs, including the Paralyzed Vets of America:

Note: there are separate threads within these forums for UK, and possibly other places:

OK, I am just going to repost the other thread here for ease of use:

1. Contact the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program in your state for help on remodeling a home, modifying a van, and acquiring equipment.

2. Contact the Coalition/Center for Independent Living [CIL], these people will help you to stay out of the nursing home, or allow you to return to home, and remain within the community.

3. MedWaiver: are you or your Loved one on Medicaid now? Then apply for MedWaiver as this program will provide in-home care.

4. There are also local and state programs . CIL should assist with this information, along with accessing the “emergency funds” available until MedWaiver kicks in.

Most of the above are federally funded but state administered programs...the bucks are there, but sometimes you need to fight for them. Having an advocate is essential…if you have none, be one…

Please share if you have more info, tips, experience...Help is in place, but the funding for programs and resources is dwindling...

Contact: state specific Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program for more information. Though most programs are federally funded, they are administered by each state, therefore information is best found at each state's site. Just Google:" [state] Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program"

This was very helpful information and I will pass it on to my dad's wife, his primary caregiver. She is desperately seeking help right now. She has already acquired a van and gotten the house converted to be wheelchair accessible, thankfully. Why is it so hard to find these resources on our own? It's like trying to solve a puzzle!

I've been reviewing many posts in the forum since my initial post above and saw many helpful posts from S&W Winger. I'm sorry for the loss of this lovely woman and invaluable resource to this community.
