I'm a high-level quad, C-4/5, and have absolutely no finger function and no ability to use my hands, knuckles etc.

Are there ways for me to still be able to use his cell phone?

Hi my son is a very high quad C2/C3 and he uses a cell phone with an earpiece bluetooth. He has no hand, finger or arm movements at all. The first one I bought him for his 18th birthday while he was still in rehab. This was a voice activated phone and a bluetooth which connected to it. Any cell phone outlet should be able to help you out. If you need any other advice please feel free to send a private message and I will ask my son to mail you.

Most of the bluetooth headsets still have a little button that you need to push on it. If you know somebody that is handy with a soldering iron it shouldn't be hard to make a remote on/off button. If not you can buy one from these guys.

I'm a C4/C5 complete and use a hand splint with a pencil in it to use my cell phones. Same thing for typing on keyboard & using the mouse. I use the same cuff to put my eating utensils etc in.

Hello Dillon,

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I just visited a website where just about everything can be set up as voice activated. I often see people looking on this forum for this type of information so I thought I'd share it.

I hope this helps.

My husband is a c-4 incomplete. He has no hand or wrist function but we got him an android cell phone and he can do all kind of things with it. He can send me text, check his email, and play games on it and of course place calls. The screen just takes a light touch and its voice control also.

Any of the recent touch screen phones will do (Samsung, Nokia, HTC, SonyEricsson, Google, iPhone, etc).

I use a blue tooth when Im on the go. I've learned that if the button is flush with the surface of the blue tooth its more dificult to push, so everytime my girl breaks mine, lol, I look for ones where the button sticks up some and press it with my palm. Touch screen phones are good, I use a flip phone (still) because my hands are somewhat contracted and I've mastered it. Text, dial, and type with my knuckles...practice makes perfect.
I also keep the phone attached to me by a necklace. Sucks when you drop your phone and theirs noone to get it. Good luck.
I never did like snakes... so I got out the gutter.

I use a Nokia C3.00 it has a Qwerty keyboard which i can input text with either knuckle or tough.
Sadly the smart phones are usually inductive screens which need to be touched with a finger rather than a stylus.
If it don't make sense I blame the voice typing software misunderstanding me not my failure to listen in English classes!

My Fiance is a C7-T1 with no finger movement and we got him an iPhone that he can use pretty well. We also got the jawbone bluetooth and he can simply tap the bluetooth icon on his phone and that will answer calls or switch over from the phone to his bluetooth instead of trying to push the small button on the bluetooth. We got some super intense velcro and attached the phone to the armrest on his wheelchair and that works really well for him. He can just lightly tap what he needs or use the voice control. Sometimes it difficult for him to push the button so we put a raised button on top of it and he is able to use one hand to push onto this other to get the button pressed.

There is a Hands-Free Bluetooth Headset that does not have any wires attached to it and does not require the user to press any buttons to make or receive a cell phone call. You can also use to listen to music and to send a text message (hands-free) with some cell phones.

This is the Website... http://www.nobuttonsheadset.com/

My husband has no finger function and has no problem using an iphone. He texts like a madman and even has a Dragon Dictate app.

When I met Gav he texted with his tongue. Velcro on his splint and the other bit of the velcro on the back of his phone. Now he has a blackberry so uses his knuckle of his little finger instead. Talent!

C5 here, using a cell phone for over 4 years. No finger movement. Curled fingers that slightly close the hand a little when I flex my wrist back hand upwards. I dial, and if I'm in bed I have no problem Texting.

It's all practice practice! At first I thought I wasted money buying one. Now I have no landline :)

@siobhanb, LOL! My husband is the same way, you would not believe what he can do with the tip of his thumb,I watch that guy hammer out texts quicker than most 17 year-old girls using just that thumb! :lmao:
