A US appeals court has overturned an earlier order to suspend federal funding of stem cell research.

The Washington court said opponents of the research, who say it is illegal because it involves the destruction of human embryos, were unlikely to succeed in their lawsuit to stop the funding.

every time a republican is voted in as president we lose our funding for stem cell research. this is the first thing president clinton changed when he came to office and now obama has lifted this ban. i'm not a political person but this one issue alone has made me a democrat.

hi fellow gimps! i'm a c 6/7 quad and have been injured since 1986. i was in a roll over hydroplane accident and it took hours for the paramedics to get me out of the car in the pouring rain. that definately wasn't my day. but alas life goes on!

i know there are alot of eggs that are harvested that end up thrown away. my thinking is those could be used just like donating an organ to save a life. stem cells can also be obtained from humans.why throw away something that could help someone else. research has saved many lifes. who knew mold could help ?

Things in the research field do seem to be gathering a pace and the renewed international cooperation will hopefully help to drive focus and get more attention to the research taking place. All this hopefully provides momentum that if harder to stand in the path of in the future.

Anyway lets hope, it's really kind of ridiculous that we are in an era where medicine can do some truly amazing things. However you have an accident, disease or unfortunate incident and end up with one of the most complex and important organs in your body injured, they patch you up shove some metal in there to keep you sort of upright like everyone else and they show you how to shove things into yourself to stop you exploding or making a mess in public and drop you in a chair with varying amounts of education about your totally new life and pack you off to live a life in the shadows of society..

I'm sure if you let a team of accountants do the math then we would find that this method is not the efficient way to approach the problem either.

IT'S TOTALLY BLOODY RIDICULOUS AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH AS A MASSIVE PRIORITY.

You referring to Mr Fleming there there and the results of proper systematic SCOTTISH RESEARCH which produced penicillin?, a fungus which grows on your breakfast if you don't eat it on time and leave it lying about your lab because your a forgetful egg head. On behalf of all Scots I accent you grateful thanks.

I'm not sure about other states here in the us but in SC if you have a DUI etc you have to pay 200.00 for stem cell research also when i had my son in 94 my doctor took stem cells from the placenta. you do not have to destroy a baby to get stem cells. The pharmaceutical company's are facing loosing millions if cures are found for various medical problems. Not all funding comes from the federal government but the private sector as well.

that sounds like a good idea since alot of sci results from a drunk driver. do you know who gets the money?
i'm sure alot of researchers don't want to find cures. they would be out of a job. they are more into patching than curing. it would be alot cheaper on the goverment to cure rather than to substain all the medical issues.
however, they don't work that way.

It actually goes for stem cell research which was surprising to me but various labs/teaching hospitals in sc are recieving the money.

This is a touchy topic from my research stem cells coming from other than embryos are providing more results in research. Each has their own beliefs about embionic stem cells.
I believe research to find cure is important. But we have to look inside ourselves to find where we stand and respect others who may not see this the way you ( in general ) believe.

This is quite true. "Wasted" eggs are a by product of fertility treatment. Let's not waste them!
