Hello everyone,

I'm a student at university doing an assignment/presentation about parents with spinal cord injury.

I was wondering if you could share your experiences on parenting with a SCI

in particular the physical and social challenges you may have experienced as a parent

and how you have coped and adapted such as what equipment or changes in your home to increase participation with your child or social groups that you have attended.

Also if you have any links or websites that would be useful in learning more about parenting with SCI it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm just after parents experiences.

All i want to know is what challenges you faced physically and socially when being a parent.
Like were people accepting of you being a parent, or did they think that you were babysitting?
Or was it difficult to discipline your child as you couldn't run after them and you needed to adapt your yelling voice so that they would know not to run on the road.

What changes did you make within your home
For example; cutting a whole on the top of the table to place a baby tub in it so that you could bath your child.

These are the things i am after. Actual parents experiences on parenting.

As i've got some recounts of peoples experienecs from books and these were common themes.

As i said before i'm doing a presentation so i'm educating other health professional students about this and how we can assist in a better way as not everyone has the resources.

Thanks again.

I'm after world wide experiences.

It would be good to know how different it is for everyone.
