This has been the longest winter and cold spring I havn't been out side (other than a trip to the ER) since last fall.(I live in mid Michigan) One day it was in the 80 and my girlfriend tryed to get me out and I froze up and can't even work my wheel chair. As soon as the cold breeze hits me I get so stiff and start to get in a spasum. I never knew that all this other stuff was one of the thing that came along with SCI. Before SCI I would see handicap people and they looked like they were living a normal life but in a wheel chair. And now I know that there is sure alot more to it. Don

It kinda depends on the person & their injury/disability. People who have CP for instance don't seem to have as much trouble keeping their body temps regulated as SCI do. And the higher up your level of injury the harder your body has keeping the thermostat in the comfortable "not too cold, not too hot" zone. But there is always just going out in layers. Layer up so that you can add or take off clothes/jackets/blankets as needed.

I tend to wear shoes that are slightly big so I can wear those FUZZY socks cuz my feet are almost always like little icicles, & IF they get too warm (only happens in the late spring to early fall) than I can take those off & put on regular socks. Wearing a long sleeve T-shirt under a regular T-shirt may prevent some of the intermittent breezes from getting to your skin, if you get too hot (you're a guy so this works easier for you than it does us gals) take them both off & put the short sleeve back on, if you're still too cold than add a sweatshirt or light jacket or both. I wear sweatshirts so often that I've probably got over a dozen.....I wear them like most people wear regular shirts. I do OWN some shorts & skirts though I don't wear them very often......I put shorts or short skirts on when everyone else is ready to strip down to their birthday suite or lay down on a block of ice.

Welcome to Apparelyzed AND home of the Chilly Willy club.....hmmm perhaps we should start an official "Chilly Willy Club"? :cold:
*Enjoy every sunset, but be grateful for every dawn.*
*Wheelchairs are made of a special ocular magnetic alloy......they're "eyeball magnets".*
*I USE a wheelchair, that does NOT make ME a wheelchair!*

welcome to the world of COLD. i live in the south and i'm always cold. in the winter i always wear turtlenecks under everything. i have 1 or 3 in every color. once i found turtleneck sweatshirts, those are great, however, i can't find any more.
i'm hoping someone would invent something to keep us warm. i get really stiff when i'm cold.
i found fleece ponchos with hoods. these are easy to pull over your head and keep cool air out.
wal-mart ususally has these. we made me some from fleece material that didn't get in the tires.
dual air in cars is THE best invention EVER.

i still get cold at 84 degrees unless it's a sunny day. thank God winter is over.

let me know if you find the solution.
