I'm just wondering if I should be making my arrangements to take the long trip to nowhere land..

Hi Smileyblue,

Sometimes when it comes to UTIs which are reoccurrent for some of us docs sometimes say that, but there are also IV antibiotics that can be used in an event of an emergency. I wish you well and a speedy recovery!

I always carry some antibiotics with me. Just got the Doc to write me a note to get the medicine. So I always have my cipro with me no matter what in case I go down.

I have been thinking the same recently. They put me under an infectious diseases specialist a while back and I asked that same question because I was wondering whether I should be still pursuing my house dream or canning it for a bucket list. While he didn't seem to want to give me any guarantees, as they don't, he did say that there aren't any normal uti bugs in western countries that can't be treated by some sort of antibiotic. Just make sure you follow doctors orders. One of the side effects is that UTI's can make you feel depressed and I find it hard not to think negative thoughts while I have them sometimes.

Wishing you well.

If it moves to your kidneys you can get septic pretty fast, I had that happen and theres a few days that I don't remember, I guess I was a real asshole some of the nurses said :) I have a UTI that can only be killed by IV but i'm not having symptoms so were just doing the vetericyn thing and it seems to be working.

I'm on two different IV's, three times a day, and still sick...I may try this bottle of Vetericyn just to be sure before the surgery...well, you know, nothing comes back positive now anyway, all false negs LOL! yep, guess I'm good to go...

Slowlegs: dream house or bucket list? Damn, do both just in case! LOL!

As for me, I'd Love to do the bucket list, but I am too damn sick now...though actually, I sort of did it before my accident anyway, so either way, I'm good to go...my dream house is now for sale, so even had that for 10 years...and overall, it's been a good ride...

Smily, i am concerned you got no meaningful results with vetricyn. I know people have taken many different approaches with this.

Bev,

You still feel sick as hell???
Well of course you do- the antibiotics themselves can make you feel that way. At the same time, I would not trust the tests either. Have you read the full thread, or much of it, about microcyn/vetricyn on the curecare forums?

I didn't realize the two of you were in such bad shape. Please don't give up, Bev. I'd miss your acerbic humor. Don't let the UTI get you either, Smiley. You would be missed. Still and all, we will all come to an end at some point in time. Just save it for later, O.K.? Sending good thoughts your way, for whatever good that will do.

UTI can be nasty. A co-worker died of one a few years ago, after battling infection after infection. I want the two of you on the other side of the ledger. Take care.

Remember to eat plenty of fruit and veges when on antibiotics and try drinking either cranberry tea or juice as well as kiwifruit juice they are incredibly potent natural ways of assisting your body in detoxifying (really good for promoting renal function & pushing toxins out of the body). When on long duration of antibiotics, especially intravenous really important to look at ways of helping them work because your body struggles not only with the infection but also the medication so a combined approach with meds & natural treatment will help...you two sound like you coul us all the help you can get to help fight these UTI's off - sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know and are probably doing already.

I hope you both recover soon, try to stay positive while you know the risks of infection look after yourselves to the best possible extent to ensure the highest possible chance of recovery.

 to you both.

Jeez, Smiley, I am sorry, as I reread my own posts, I sounded very negative...I truly feel positive for your chances of recovery, as they did your surgery differently this time...please just keep a positive attitude and know we are all behind you...

I meant to be supportive of your situation, and now I see I sounded a bit tired, sick and tired of being sick and tired, for both of us, it seems...

Thus I have a proposal [no no, not THAT kind, though Smiley is cute, I would never inflict myself upon her as she has been through enough!]...anyway: I propose that we both beat the hell out of all our infections, have successful surgeries, and get on with having happy little , big or in-between Lives once AGAIN! We've had this long enough and now we both finally have the chance to get on with it [Life]...so, we, just: LET'S!

Thank you all for your wonderful support...for me: Nothing else would have been possible without your support and these forums...

I only just got a chance to pop in here again.. Thanks everyone for your kind words! And Bev, Hunny, don't be too shy to say I'm too much woman for you to handle.. :P What would the world do if we joined forces..

Quote: Thank you all for your wonderful support...for me: Nothing else would have been possible without your support and these forums... ?

I second and third those sentiments, Bev!

Been sick as a dog! One good thing I must tell you is that my vein held out till this morning before: BOOM! I'm really hoping the next technician is as patient and skilled as the first one was.. My veins have acquired a rare skill at duck-diving a needle! They see it coming a mile away! And if they are unlucky and get poked, they usually manage to get rid of it pretty soon! So I think this 4-day stint deserved a mention..

Anyway, back on track.. Where was I in the complaints department? Oh ya.. The sick thing.. I haven't been able to eat or drink anything (therefore including tablets) since....what's today? Thursday, so that makes it Tuesday! I've been spewing so much with nothing in my stomach! Good grief!! Makes you wonder where all that sh!t comes from! No pun intended... :vomit:

Oh, and to top it all off, the man eventually grew a pair and decided to come tell me to my face that its over.. Where I'm lying sick in bed, contemplating my very fate, he felt it appropriate to come tell me its over because I can't give him babies and even if I could, I couldn't look after them properly, so "I must think of him now"!!!!!!!! I feel sorry for his future wife/breeding machine!

Ok... Whew... I feel better now... Rant over... Glad to have me back aren't ya?!? (silently awaiting a noise, a sound, a whisper, anything?)

Back on topic before I forget...

Maybe Chel can help answer this one...? They had me on a 3-way saline drainage catheter gismo.. The doctor said it was flushing the bacteria from the bladder.. This didn't quite make sense to me? This was as soon as I came in about, maybe the next day, but before they even knew what bug I had and were just giving a general antibiotic drip.. I mean if you can just flush it out with saline water, why do we need antibiotics? Anyway, some time into it, I began getting excruciating stomach cramps and even wilder spasms (I know! I couldn't believe they got any wilder than what I already had either! Never to old to learn they say!) and the stomach cramps stopped soon after they stopped the flushing.. Do you know of any possible reason for them to flush someones bladder like that?

Well this post is too long now (I can tell by the smoke coming off my thumb nails as I strike the BlackBerry keypad) so by for now... Let me see if I can finally sleep!

Smiley, I'm so sorry and wish this will finally get better.
And your man is a damn coward, an egocentric, a cry-baby!

Yes, you and Bev joining forces ..... that means pretty strong woman power indeed.

Jenny

As for saline flushing: Somebody else can explain a lot better than me. Bev might know, too. I do know salt water is used to get rid of bugs at an earlier stage (flushing one's nose, for instance, old Indian custom, now used in Europe too) - but as soon as the infection gets worse, antibiotics are needed. If you react with spasms, the flushing may be too quick. It must be done very slowly.

1. Hey my friend, this is YOUR thread and you may post as long, loud and verbiose as you like!!

2. Smiley, I am not even certain of the device they are using for your flush...I do mine manually, with a syringe, and can therefore flush at the rate at which I feel comfortable...perhaps that is something very different...could you ask if the rate could be slower? As it just sounds too fast, and thus, irritating the bladder rather than soothing it...

3. And why are they messing with veins and IV's like that? I have a PICC line, have had it since Novemeber, and if properly care for, as my nurse and I have, should last past my surgery...it is even a "power PICC" meaning they could utilise it for anesthesia, CT scans, etc....Please ask about a PICC line...just be sure to have a nurse change the dressing weekly, use a new bio-patch each time, and flush first with saline, then after use, flush with saline again, then heparin in order to leave the heparin in the line, to prevent clotting...

4. Have they run the cultures? And found the antibiotic to which your organism is sensitive?

Please let me know how You are doing, OK? I will hang in here if you promise that you will...none of this is going easy for either of us...but we have so many people with us here, and sometimes We could do what you or I could not...

OH! And f*@k that jerk...his loss...someday, if you are wishing, a decent guy will come into your Life...this one is not worth one single tear, but please if you feel the need, as your tears will cleanse and free You...

...and remember: Living well is the best revenge...!

Smiley, I posted on your "other" thread as to your whereabouts, and of course I was pleasantly surprised (and dismayed at the same time) to find you here.

First, I'm glad that a-hole of a weasel is out of your hair. Now you can eventually meet someone who deserves you.

Next, I sincerely hope you (and Bev, the hijacker of this thread-lol) kill your bugs and get back to normal real soon, ya hear.

And lastly, I was told that picc lines only last 3-4 days max at times. Being a bit of a hospital pro, I had a picc line done several times during a 2 week stint recently. I know they can put a thicker needle in that's supposed to withstand more movement, but due to my hypersensitivity in the arms, it hurts like hell. So, I prefer to stick (haha, get it . . . stick) with the thinner needles.

Bev, maybe your picc line is the heavy duty needle that hurt me so bad that I was chewing my lower lip like it was beef jerky. Glad you don't have any issues with yours, and you get well too, damnit!

Thanks for everything friends, you have meant the world to me..

I am saying goodbye, not as I want to, but as I probably might not be able to return..

I have found the answer to my original question, or at least that its a very real possibility!

I went through all the treatments and flushes, and turned around at deaths door after they treated me with the correct antibiotic for a 5 day course.. However, the Dr decided not to extend the duration of treatment, but rather to test if its cleared first.. It wasn't.. Every day we await news from the lab about how to proceed from here, but thus far, we have no news.. I can feel my body slipping backwards.. I'm back at violent nausea preventing any oral intake of fluids, food, medicines, etc.. Went cold turkey off all my Meds last round, for spasms, pain, everything! Not a pretty world of withdrawals! Next stage is delirium again, then I don't know if there will be any further stages..

I hate to be morbid and say goodbye when there's a chance that something will turn up that will help, but I'd rather say goodbye unnecessarily, than not have a chance at all..

Bev, my sweet, sweet Bev.. I will never be able to put into words how much your friendship has meant to me! Your encouragement gave me strength, and still does.. You hang in there right! For me and every other sufferer that you have encouraged by demonstrating the power of WOMEN! I love you!

Jenny and DD and Woofy, my other dear friends! Many lonely nights and days you kept me company in the games, encouraged me, gave me giggles and heartwarming friendship I probably don't deserve.. I love you lot terribly!

Rue, you have been my inspiration! Your rock solid, un-dwindling, faith will take you far! It is not often one finds a gem like you that shines through by your example! Thank you!

GreyBeard, Guido, Simon, and so many more (I hate naming names as I hate to miss anyone; so if I do, I meant you too).. You have given me strength to face each day with your wisdom and sound advice, always there when needed.. I thank you! From the bottom of my heart!

This forum has given me strength just by knowing that in some small way, in some archive, by my replies to threads I may have touched someone else's life and helped them face one of their own problems.. Just maybe.. Someday..

Anyway, I hope to see you soon, but as there are no guarantees in life, I am well.. Spiritually at least..
What's important is not what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us..

God gave us two ends, one to think with, n one to sit on.. Success depends on which one u use.. Heads u win, tails u lose..

This is terrible news and I for one am very saddened by it smiley I don't know you well but you have written many words of encouragement to others while I have been on here I am sure you have helped as many as who have helped you.

Where there is life there is hope...it may feel like to you there is none...let others carry hope in their hearts for you and continue to wish you well.

Personally I don't like goodbyes, it's not over until the fat lady sings and I'll keep hoping for your recovery smiley. Hope to see you back on here again and if I don't hope that you remain at peace and don't suffer.

Hi Smiley,

Just seeing your post, I am so sorry you are going through all this stuff and pray they can do something to make it better. I have had my bladder flushed before, but I was told to make sure no bacteria was in the track, but at the time I had very loose stools and they led me to believe that they was making sure no contamination in the bladder track, but I also use a flush at home like Bev said, but when they inserted the foley to stay for a week the nurse did a flush too before putting it in, but nothing like the tubing you described. I am sorry your friend did you like he did, it was so wrong. Please, hang in there and know we are here for you! You may not know me well, but I care about others.

Sincerely,
Chel
