Now admit it Geoff, when you was a wee pup did you dream about growing up to be a train driver! !

I didn't know him, but my paternal grandad was a steam train driver. He topped himself, which rather put me off the idea of following in his footsteps! .....and then, of course, they scrapped all the steam trains. Bah!

Smiley--

What the dickens, Girl? Bev, God rest her precious and powerful soul, would drag your butt all the way to the hospital in the next town off the back of her bike for you to get the care you need and DESERVE even if you are feeling a bit better temporarily. Can't you hear her nagging you in your left ear: "GET GOING NOW I LOVE YOU BUT I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU UP HERE WITH ME JUST YET...THERE'S NOT YET ENOUGH ROOM FOR THAT KIND OF WOMAN POWER WITH BOTH OF US!" (I can hear the boom of her laugh and cajoling from here, I swear....sounds like thunder to everyone else, but I'm certain it's our beloved Bev.)

Really, I understand why you don't want to go back to that pinhead small-minded twaddly twit you've been stuck with, but the rest of the crew has a point: do not delay, get thee into the car and 2 hours down the road to get those kidneys taken care of--it's nothing to fool with and a temporary respite is promising (and it's good to hear your spirits brightening a bit, that always helps for some reason) but you've been through the wringer and enough is enough.

I'm with GB, EC, Q, Tetra, and the rest: Go, now, please, pretty pretty please? I don't beg easily, but I couldn't stand to lose another bright light such as yourself.

on angel's wings I send prayers, love, and healing thoughts added to those already coming your way,

Yippee.. The D-Mannose arrived and I have just taken my first dose!

I hope this is gonna clear it out before I have to see the Dr, as he can only squeeze me in next week.. Fingers crossed! ;-)

Thanks BB

No news yet I'm afraid.. We sent another sample to the lab for culture and sensitivity today coz I have a nasty feeling that I have an additional bug to the e-coli now.. Anyway, the new Dr will see me end of the week, so the results should be back by then.. So frustrating that everything takes so LONG!

Frustrated to no end!

Am I going mad again???

My appointment was cancelled due to emergency surgery the doctor had to attend.. So I phoned the lab myself to find out the results.. They said I need to contact my urologist for the results (the old one).. Anyway, long story short, the results came back all clear! That would be great news if I thought it possible.. Besides still feeling so poorly, prior to sending the sample I did a dipstick test, which showed leucocytes, nitrites, and off the scale blood in the urine.. This test was done on the same urine sent to the lab, not a new sample, so how can the results differ so greatly??? The lab also said 0 leucosites, which I thought was imposible with a permanent catheter anyway..

Well, I've just clamped the catheter so that I can take another sample for a dipstick test in a few hours..

It would be so great if it is true! If the test shows I'm clear.. But then what is causing me to feel so bad? And what gives with the "kidney" pain, and return of the spasms, and all the other stuff?

I'm confused! :tease:

That's bullshit. I had the same thing happen. I could swear I had a UTI...all the classic symptoms. I went for a lab test and the results came back fine. I thought it was all in my head. Three days later, I had raging UTI and since I'm diabetic, my sugar levels were out of whack for the next week. I felt rotten and had to cancel PT for that week. I think those of us who live with it are able to tell a UTI before the labs can.

I made an arrangment with my doctor to have a Ciprofloxin prescription on hand, just in case. He trusts me to know when to use it. Now, I can at least start the treatment without having to wait days and be in misery.

The lab stuff is all crap in my opinion.

Damn, Smiley......just PMed you about how your new consult went. Sorry you got no relief. Ginny is right about keeping a good Cipro supply on hand. Waiting on a culture and sensitivity give the infection 48-72 hour head start and you feeling baaad. As you know my last E. coli became resistant to Cipro and most other oral antibiotics and only moderate sensitivity to most of the IVs. This has been going on too long. I assume you are keeping your intake up as much as possible and taking the mannose as well. Hhave you tried large doses of Vic-C to give you a more acid output? I take a gram in the morning and a gram in the evening. Thankfully, I'm staying clean and clear for the time being. I had been ill from it for several months. I find my attitude affects my physical feelings a good bit. Try to stay occupied "washing, ironing, etc...." getting out to eat or a movie. Hope you feel better and get that consult soon. Best wishes.......

Darn it! I also believe we know when we're sick before any of the tests show it. Having a prescription on hand is a good idea. I don't know how medicine works where you are, but is it possible to get a Primary Care doctor who will set up tests from head to toe and find out exactly what's going on? Perhaps the other doctors would be attentive to another doctor than to "just a patient." I'm very concerned about you. Every sick day makes you weaker and will make it even more difficult if something else starts. I wish I could come smack some of those doctors around for you.

Feel better.

Thanks everyone..

I re-did a dipstick test, and it still shows leucosites and nitrites.. I don't know what to do anymore..

I'm gonna phone on Monday for an appointment with my Neurologist and ask her to find out exactly what's caused the pain, spasms, etc, to reappear.. She listens to me (appointments with her can last up to 2 hours!) so perhaps she'll get to the root of all this..

I'm so tired of it already.. I feel like crap, and now I feel like people think I'm making it up because the lab results said I'm fine.. This whole UTI chapter in my life is really doing a thorough head job on me!

I'm so glad you'll be seeing your neurologist. No one here thinks you are making anything up. I imagine most of us have been through similar situations. Try to keep your spirits up-- read a favorite book, watch a favorite movie, etc. It stinks to always feel ill. My thoughts are with you.

Just a quick update..

Things seem to be looking up.. I haven't redone a test since the one last week, but I'm not feeling so "grotty" anymore.. I do still have pain and spasms, but again its much better than they have been.. So perhaps the D-Mannose/Cranberry/Vetericyn combination is working for me???

I also haven't had another blocked catheter or vicious cramps since putting in the larger Foley catheter.. My muscles are almost healed from the last cramps and don't hurt when I breathe anymore..

So, all good news today.. :D

Renêe,
I am much relieved to here the good news. Steady as she goes.

When you have energy for a new go at it, try intermittent cathing between foleys. You may find the gunking up has backed off enough that it is not so difficult.

With the care you are giving your immune system you may end up being a beacon of hope.
