Ok i have 2 sores that are not getting better at all. i have done everything that was recommended in the 300 page book i got when i got to rehab. now they started because i was wearing KAFO's. on the outside part of my ankles. i have gone back to wearing the open afo's with the kickstands so there is no pressure on them. i only cover them when i go out. using water proof bandaids with triple antibiotic creme. when i am at home they are cleaned and then open with out any sort of pressure on them. at least twice a day i clean them with soap and water. wondering if there is anything else i can do or something i shouldn't be doing. these sores are not changing for the better or for the worse they look the same there is no discharge or anything like that. the other thing that i see could potentially be an issue. is my feet swell a lot. even before the sores they were swollen. is that part of the problem?

I'm no expert but I would have thought you wanted the sores to dry out so constant cleaning with soap and water does not sound like a good thing.
As for the swollen feet it is probably just your body retaining fluids to help keep your blood pressure up. Do you find you drain a lot of urine once you lie down? If so then this is the case. If not then you must be pregnant. Congratulations!!

Out of the gloom a voice said unto me, "Smile and be happy, things could be worse." So I smiled and was happy and behold things did get worse.

Seek professional attention from a Dressings Nurse - this is what they do all day and they have many tricks to help.
I had one that wouldn't go away for months and months even though I thought I was doing everything right. Just stayed the same.
There was a sneaky little infection there. A course of anti-biotics and the correct dressings, and it disappeared in 2 weeks - okay, so was skin deep not more.
But MEDICAL ATTENTION by a SPECIALIST PERSON will help...

Hello Tom,
With pressure ulcers, you need to put a bandage over it that will pass air. I had a pressure ulcer on my left foot, just below the outside ankle bone. I would spray it with Microcyn and saturate a gauze bandage with the Microcyn and tape it on. In a few days, it was completely healed. I also treated my pressure ulcers on my backside the same way with Microcyn and they healed without having to stay in bed.
Good luck.
