When I went to Cancun in 1988 things werent too accessible then, I dont know what they are like now. I know I couldnt go to the bull fights. The matadors came out from inside and met me but it wasnt going to work for a chair. The taxi's you must transfer into them..or roll down the side walks from place to place.. Good luck!~

We went to Cancun in October 2001. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency. There was a roll in shower, but my husband uses a bench, which they were able to provide.

It was great, but the one thing I didn't like was no real beach access for wheelchairs.

We went a block up the street to a restaurant and 4 waiters came out and each grabbed part of hubby's wheelchair and got him down a long flight of steps and onto the beach under an umbrella. We didn't even eat there.

We did get quite an eye opener though. After we settled in and grabbed a couple of cold ones from our cooler, we looked to our right and saw about 5 topless women just hanging out . . . literally. :mfrlol:

We went deep sea fishing too. Just keep a bunch of dollar bills on you and you can get anybody to help you get anywhere.

The taxis are small, but they made it work. We had one guy who waited around for us everyday and he even helped me find a boatload of pure vanilla extract. I didn't know any Espanol back then and no one understood what I wanted.

We went to Plaza del Toro aka Bull Fight and there were guys there who help schlep Mr. Hapa to the seating area. When the show was over, the same guys were looking out for us to help again.

We had planned to go parasailing. They have a bench so 2 people can sit while up in the air. We ended up not going b/c the day we planned turned out to be too windy and dangerous. But we had some guys who told us it was no problem for hubby and me to get on. They had planned on doing whatever it took.

Everyone down there were just very accommodating and they love dollar bills.

Just a side note: I'm not sure if all hotels are this way, but we didn't figure out until the last day, the shower nozzle is backwards, so we were taking very cool showers all week.

Also just a warning, don't use the tap water to even brush your teeth. Use bottled water. I got the craps from using the tap. The Hyatt had water bottles in the room, which we thought were a courtesy, but turned out they charged for them.
