Hi there,

My husband and I are traveling from New Zealand to London over the June/July period for our honeymoon. My husband is a C4/5 tetraplegic and requires a patient lifter/hoist for transfers. We are staying in Westminster and will need the hoist for 3 weeks. Any information on hiring of hoists in this area or greater London would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Corrin,

When I was last in London I rented a Shower Chair from Direct Mobility. Checking their website they don't make reference to hoists but it could be worth emailing them to see if they can help.

Thanks for the tip Valo.

I just phone Direct Mobility and they do hire hoists for short term periods, they are just updating their website so haven't got them to view yet. Very friendly on the phone too

Hoists? Have you asked our great Trinity to see if she has any brill ideas? She lives in London. Or email the Spinal Injuries Association and ask them. You could have mine for 3 weeks if you get really short but I'm 100 miles from central London (the last 10 miles takes longer to travel than the 90 before).

I saw on your profile that you looked at the Copthorne in Knightsbridge, they did used to have rooms with ceiling hoists. There was a group where you could get these rooms at about 1/3rd rate and include breakfast. I currently don't remember its name, sorry.

Also if you are staying for 3 weeks, is it better to think of staying in an apartment where you can save some money and do some meals your self? Depends on your budget I guess but again the SIA should have some good suggestions.

Have you been here before and got ideas what to do? I'm sure theres plenty of us here who could offer suggestions.
