Hello my co-fighters

I am new here and new on wheels. After a car accident i go through my new life on wheels. I am using manual wheelchair as much as possible, but since i am quadriplegic long distances are a problem. cause i am active and "all around" all the time its time to do sth more about my independency. So I am thinking of buying some power on add for my quickie hellium. sth like attachable hand motorcycle. of cource the control handle has to be adjusted for tetraplegic hands. my hands are quite strong but fingers are still asleep. can not squize.

can anyone suggest a manufacturer? (i have tried RIO mobility but they do not make "tetra controls)

waiting for their reply, but they do have handbikes with equipment for quadroplegic! you can see it at the bottom of the page. maybe this is the one for us

I also found for you couple of good handbike with electric engine that can fit to quadriplegic and paraplegic too.

Power Assist Wheels! The ones ive looked into are called E-motion by Alber and Xtender by Quickie. They are wheels that are put on a manual chair and assist you in pushing at diffrent selected modes. Controlled by the pushrim no finger movements shouldnt be a problem...the ultimate solution for someone who doesnt want to be in a electric chair! GoodLuck

Regarding "... thinking of buying some power on add ..." - a gentleman named Pat has made a power add-on that may suit you perfectly. An early picture of his device is shown here.

The present version of his device can be seen on his power ad-on web page. Whether or not it would be economical to ship one to your location is something that you would need to address with him. Pat resides in California, USA and has an injury level similar to yours. Pat's contact information can be found on the aforementioned website. Pat is presently in talks with a company who is considering manufacturing his device in larger quantities.

Hi I just had my injury 8 months ago and I was told I shouldn't get the electric wheels cos I'll get stronger, but when I get outside the therapy center I can't move, I want the power hubs cos I'm afraid of not being independent in the community... What should I do?

hello!
dont give up too quickly. i had the same situation. outside the center i couldnt get anywhere. and above all i was working my ass off with old, heavy wheelchair that belonged to center. it was really a slap to my ego... then i got my wheels and got home... you can not believe how much you improve just doing everyday stuff. you should also get out as much as possible and train. you will get stronger. however for longer distances it is still too exhausting. what i wanted to say was, dont get lazy on power hubs use them when really necessary! good luck
