Hi Tiya..

I'm not sure I understand your questions correctly, but I'll try My best to answer.. ;-)

What transfers can you do independently? If you can transfer to your chair from bed and back, you should be able to transfer to a wheeled commode.. This would enable you to move over a toilet for your bowel programme and to an accessible shower (if this is available to you)..

Getting help for a few hours a day is a great option, especially if you cannot go to the bathroom for your routine, and to help with bed baths.. There are MANY of us that need help!

Infections are not linked to how you get clean, but rather to whether you get clean (and many other things of course).. As long as you are careful, and whoever is helping you takes proper care, you should be no more at risk than anyone else..

I hope that answers your questions, but feel free to ask more if this doesn't quite do it.. ;-)

What can you do on your own? In terms of feeding yourself, preparing food, getting dressed, bladder care... If we knew this we might be able to help come up with solutions for you to live independently a little better.

hello Tiya

Welcome. Glad you found this site and maybe we can help answer your questions.

If you'll make a list of the things you need, then we may be able to better understand how to help. This list will be good for when you are trying to find a helper. Start with the morning [list all the things you need help with] then go thru the rest of the day. You should have a good list together by the time you get to the end of the day.

There is a section about independent living. Try going there to see if you might see similar requests.

Tiya,

I'm happy to welcome another member from the Balkans.
This forum has answers to your questions . Obviously you need a sliding board or hoist . Write "sliding board" or "transfer board" or "hoist" in the search field top right. You can also search youtube.com to see how C5 SCI transfer

Also here we have a C5 member that has achieved complete independence living alone with his dog. You can see his profile here .

With effort and patience you can achieve independence.

Wish you all the best.

Tiya,
Are you a newer injury? If so, it takes time to relearn new ways of doing things on your own. Be patient with yourself.
I had a care giver helping me for a few hours every night, too. It definitely IS possible to live on your own with a little assistance. Good luck.
