I, like most, sit at the computer for work, leisure, etc... But I have such extreme pain I have to actually go lay down for an hour or so during the day, sometimes several times. I dont understand why I can not feel pain when I hit my knee or get a shot but I feel this pain. I have a ROHO Hybrid Elite cushion and I didn't have these problems until about 1-2 months ago. Any advice??

I feel your pain - literally!! I am not a complete though. I don't feel anything sensory, hot or cold, or pain (as is banging my toes) - but my backside hurts all the time! I just fidget and wiggle all the time and try to get in different positions. Sometimes the only thing to do though is get in my bed and off my rear end!

You mentioned your cushion. Is it new or old? Have you checked your cushion to make sure it's okay?

I wiggle, rock, and lean side to side all the time to keep pressure from building up on any spot on the rear end. I call them mimi weight shifts. Sitting for long periods can cause pain. Look at it as a good thing. You'll be aware of the pressure and won't likely have any skin problems. Just keep moving it around as much as you can.

I guess it is a good thing now that you mention it but nonetheless it hurts!! My job is very demanding and fast pace so I forget to do pressure relief as I should. I need to make that as part of my daily (hourly) routine. My cushion is 8 months old, I had it when I was discharged from the hospital in October. How often should you change out cushions?

I do the same to relieve pressure, I can also feel pain in my ass [he,he] which is a good thing for me cause it's usually a good indication that my Roho is over or under flated.....

It depends on what kind of cushion you have as to how long before it'll need changing. I use a Jay 2 and can get 3 to 4 years out of it. You may ask around here for users of your type of cushion. The seams in my cushion tend to start leaking silicone. Always use a store/dealer that insists on doing a computer mapping of your rear end. They will be able to tell you exactly where your pressure points are. Well worth it in the long run.

Always keep a physical check on your cushion for any problems. I 'knead' the silicone in my cushion every day to prevent it from bottoming out.

I've found it to be a good idea to keep in touch with your durable medical store. When they know you personally, you get way better service. They'll be glad to do a mapping on your old /current cushion to make sure it's still doing its job .

Check with your insurance to see how often they'll approve a new cushion. It's better to replace it or at least have it on hand before the old one has a problem. Sometimes, it takes a few days to come in and you don't want to be without one. I'm speaking from experience... A memory foam cushion over your old one will get you by till the new one comes in. They really feel better and I have been known to add it especially if I have lost weight and the butt starts hurting more. This in just my opinon and I don't want to cause anyone any problems.

Just remember a pain in the butt is telling you , you need to do a weight shift.

Hi KK

Same here with the annoying pain, tingles, pins and kneedles, numbness, etc.

i used to be really paranoid and worried about whether its an early signal of to much pressure and early development of a sore so id do loads of lift up pressure reliefs holding the wheels, force myself to fidget. However my skin is fine

ive even kept a log for a month of sleeping position, number and duration of pressure reliefs, etc but couldnt come up with any patterns or theories.

The only conclusions i found was that when im at work or busy i dont think about it as much. easier said than done though when you are trying to relax as it winds me up.

maybe i should look into new cushions.

hope it improves for you

Rich

Thank you all for your advice and shared experiences. I noticed after I added air to my cushion it did get some better.

Thanks again!
KK
