Hi.
had my first visit to wheelchair services today. the man there has told me that my tires should be hard ones and is changing them. does anyone know why these would be better.
wasn't a successful visit as i was told i am too heavy for the lighter rigid chair the nhs will provide so have to keep this heavier one or buy my own.
thanks

Hi Jane
Hmmm, wheelchair services, dont get me started there!! Anyway this may be very impertinant but how much do you weigh? I ask becasue rigid chairs are well,... rigid so they are infact pretty strong.
The only advantage I can see of having soild tyres is that you dont get punctures. But having said that if you ask around here its pretty rare to get one, I never have. Do you think you would be capable of chainging a tyre if you had to? Its the same as changing a bike tyre, and it usually takes me an hour to do both, sitting on the floor.
Id have thought a Sportier version of one of the Quickie models would be fine for you , they come in pretty big sizes and i know some of the guys here arent small!
