Hi. I am a 45 y/o female dx. with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) in 9/09.
I have been dealing with increasing spasticity and muscle spasms for the
past 5 years. I just had my Baclofen pump trial on 6/15/11 and it was sucessful.
The doctors want to do the implant ASAP so I am looking for any information
good or bad about the Baclofen pump implant. What to expect? What is life like
having the pump? Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Hey Gypsyrose

I can't help with the pump but I can say WELCOME. There will be others who can share their experiences with it. I hope you have good luck because pain just isn't any fun. You may remember the song 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'.[ sorry, just got side tracked]

Glad you joined!

Hi, I'm new too! The archive threads here seam to be pretty helpful - I too am on the long journey to getting a pump. At the moment I've decided to go for the Phenol nerve block to try and keep the pain at bay.

Welcome! I also am considering having a pump put in. I have done some research and read over some statistics and i am very optomistic. Still need to look into it more - i'll share anything I find out and please send me anything you may come across.

In the muscles it was injected into - the inner thigh muscles, a MASSIVE difference, was a bit weird though. My other muscles kept spasming, but the thigh ones didn't, so it felt a bit odd. Also was a bit more wobbly as I didn't have the tone to help keep upright, as outer muscles were compensating. Definitely going ahead though with the phenol, as it helped with the pain.

Now even more excited about the pump - if that is what having one group of muscles relaxed is like, the whole legs must be bliss!

They injected baclofen into your muscle?
No, they injected anaesthetic into my legs near my nerves as they could as a trial - for the actual treatment they will use Phenol, another chemical. This is a measure to help out while I'm waiting for the baclofen pump, as I can't take oral medication (do not react well!), and waiting times are loooooong. So this will at least help the worst muscles for the next 6 months or so.
