Hi all just thought i'd update you on a new thread - i'm no longer working for the charity in question and now looking for a new charity to help. Coz i' mnot able to work at the mo i think volunteering is important as it keeps me sane!!
Well i have a new secret weapon to keep me as independent as poss..... my dog louis!!
Now before you all think i'm insane let me explain: Louis has for a while been picking things up when he feels like it. So i thought what if i could teach him to do this all the time? So for the last few days i've put this into practise. First i asked him to touch the item eg purse at first, when he had done this a few times i would drop it and ask him to pick it up. After a few times he got it and at the mo 9 times out of 10 he will pick it up and give it to me. The other time he will pick it up and and leg it to hide it!! Its a good job i no all his hiding places otherwise i could be in trouble. This has given me independence as i don't have to ask all and sundry to pick things up for me. Its great and such a small thing has given me so much more independence its unreal. I no longer worry about dropping things when louis is about - the only thing is i can't take him into shops or anything so i'm still depending on staff to help me. My next wish is for him to be recognised as a helper and be allowed into shops. The only thing is his age is against him as he is 7 but i can dream can't i? love esslouis :dancegirl:

That's a real heart-warming story! I LOVE animals, and my babies (dogs) are my everything! Peanut is just now beginning to fetch things when I ask her, but she and Milo end up competing who can hang on to it the longest, so there's still much learning to be done.. Lol.. Its a great feeling though isn't it? True companionship!
What's important is not what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us..

God gave us two ends, one to think with, n one to sit on.. Success depends on which one u use.. Heads u win, tails u lose..

ES!! That's Awesome news! Very much worthy of celebration. Animals are amazing. I have a kitty (Kung Pao in my pic) he is my buddy. They just know when you need them especially when the chips are really down. He's been a hot water bottle on my bad leg more times than I can count and now with all I have going on when the visceral pain hits the roof he's on my tummy. I am so happy you have your doggie to help and doubly happy you are looking for a new spot for you talents. Posted Image

It's amazing what animals can do for you when you're down or in the time of need. I loved dogs before my injury and even more so now. Unfortunately I cannot interact with them, at least not yet anyway, in a physical sense but just having them around makes my day! Glad you are finding more happiness!

hi Tatiana
If you need any tips in training just pm me. It was fairly easy to do even though peeps were saying it was a hard thing to teach. Wrong the dog is more clever than they thought.

Yay - great news Ess - you DO sound much happier. Thats really lovely to hear. ANd its ok to have a bad day very now and again - and not worry about coming on here and having the odd tant!
And congratulation to Louis - Im afraid my Izzie is a pampered Princess and the only thing she would fetch for me would be her box of Bonio!

Have a great day :)
