Discovered penicillin and as a result many of the modern anti-biotics have become available and to us.
As a member of a group of people who can be particularly dependant on these medicines I feel he has to get my vote. Oh and he just happens to be a Scot as well.

I have no idea why, but I read his biography as a pre-teen and he's always the first "figure" who pops into my head. Musta been one of those adolescent girl horse things.
In the 90s I lived next door to Tom, a very old guy who was Man O War's groom. Every year at Derby time the media would trot out to his tiny house to interview him.
Do I get points?

He'd have my vote as well. I would also add in The Dahli Lama , Martin Luther King Jr., and Mother Theresa for their efforts towards peace & loving their fellow man.

Yes he would have to get some major recognition....without his discovery a great # of people would be dead.
Also on the note of discoveries.....the discovery of antibiotics have saved a lot of children's ear-infections & fevers from causing hearing loss. When I lived in Arizona I went to ASDB (Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind) where we learned of his discovery AND the history of braille. So I'd like to throw in Louise Braille for bringing the gift of literature to the world of the bind.
