Okay, so recently my trach has been leaking by the base of it. Mostly when I cough but also when I talk I can feel air coming out around it. Most likely upgrading to a bigger size will fix it but that hurt like a BEEP for like a month.... Are there any alternatives (besides 4x4's that look stupid in my opinion) that you guys can throw my way? Thanks in advance!

Hello there! Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you but I do have a question. How long ago was your injury? You have a lower level injury than myself but are still on the trach. I was just wondering if you have been trying to do some major weaning to get away from that or not? Look forward to hearing from you.

My injury was almost 22 years ago. I most likely could wean off but right now it is the biggest factor allowing me to keep my nursing staff... thus, it stays 
I absolutely hate it and really have never had problems until this past year. Now I just hate it more...

Have you looked into a local facility that specializes in weaning people like you and I off of that trach? They are out there. I would imagine that your doctor's first goal would be to remove that thing. If they aren't pursuing that, maybe looking to changing doctors?
