CONGRATS to all you parents in chairs
. i am a C5-6 incomplete quad and am almost 6 years post injury. my boyfriend and i both want kids and look forward to it, but i am having bladder problems. i take oxybutyninCL 5mg 3xa day, this has been helping me hold some urine in, but i have a bad reflux problem into my kidneys. i have had the reflux problem for the past 3 years. my urologists wants me to do a bladder augmentation(enlargement) and mitrofanoff so i can do it myself. thats a good idea i wouldn't mind doing it myself, but he (the urologist) would me rather have a child first then do the bladder surgery (he is worried the baby and enlarged bladder would be problematic). right now we are not financially ready for a child. another urologist suggested just getting rid of my bladder, well have the urine travel from my kidneys through an opening in my abdomen into a urine bag sticky sealed to my skin, not a bad idea but i would have to carry a urine bag along my abdomen 24/7, i think it would get in my way. so heres my question for other women with sci who have had a child or plan on having one, how do you urinate? i need to fix this bladder problem first before any talk of children. any suggestions, other bladder surgeries, any ideas......
thank you
