Hi I'm Chris I used to play state rugby union and now I'm quadriplegic, I was just wondering are we close to a REAL cure or should I just not hope and face the fact that I'm going to be in this chair for the rest of my life??? :badmood:

chris-

I suggest you educate yourself about efforts toward cure so you need not accept the pompous opinions of your fellow gimps. Go to

http://sci.rutgers.e...isplay.php?f=32

and read until you go blind.

It seems impossible to extinguish hope of improvement, and you should work as hard as you can to improve whatever you have. After a certain point (you will know...) cure becomes meaningles because ones body is so degraded by atrophy.

This is really part of a large life strategy: Work for improvement, and also for contentment with one's present circumstances. is there any opportunity for wheelchair rugby in your area?

Welcome to the forum Chris! ;-)

As Tetra said, its best to form your own educated/informed opinion, rather than to rely on the opinion of others..

But since you asked :D

I think at some time in the future there will be a "cure", but it will be for newly injured persons.. Before scar tissue forms.. Personally, I am not holding my breath for anything..

My advice? Accept what you have.. Make the most of it.. If something better comes around its a bonus, but if it doesn't, you'll not have wasted any time waiting for something that didn't happen..

Never stop your physical therapy. My daughter too is a quad and has made some amazing return from diving accident 2007. Please see her site thesam4r2wblog.blogspot.com at Project Walk Austin Tx since 2010.

Nobody said its going to be easy, its not.. Everything takes more effort now.. So to me the hardest challenge is not to allow myself to get lazy.. :blushing02: You have to keep at it, and as you do you become fitter, which in turn makes it easier to do.. Life DOES go on..

You might not be able to do tiling.. See this as a new opportunity to try new things.. Photography, something to do with computers, writing.. There are many "non-physical" things that may interest you which you can now do..

Give yourself time to adjust.. It really doesn't happen overnight.. ;-)
