Hello everyone,

I have recently become involved with a man who was in a car accident (9 years ago) and broke his spine between the L1/L2 region. He was told that he would never walk again, but after 2 years of being in a wheelchair, guess what, he began to walk again!! Amazing man with an amazing heart and outlook on life. He is completely independent - although does suffer from some limitations.

I know that everyone's situation/issues will be different. I am here to read and get as much info as possible so I can be as supportive and understanding as possible. Thank you all for sharing and any advice would be truly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum! You've definitely come to the right place!

What's important is not what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us..

God gave us two ends, one to think with, n one to sit on.. Success depends on which one u use.. Heads u win, tails u lose..

Awesome story. I hope your friend continues to improve. No matter what our capabilities, every SCI sufferer on this site has some kind of limitation. The trick is to make a little of them as possible and as much of life as possible.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes Dom, I know that he does have other issues but could not give you the details. Because we are just starting out, I have not asked a lot of questions (although I want to!! :))

Hi, and welcome. You're a great girlfriend to want to learn about his SCI and what other things it might have going on. I'll bet that you'll find lots of answers here.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome!

I have learned a lot already. Of course Sandy, it is as much a part of his life, and possibly our life together, that I should learn- even just to be understanding and patient!!
