I had an appointment with my pain doctor today to look into the right kind of nerve block he wants to do for me. In the past I had an L5 block for the parasympathetic part of my lower right side. Now he wants to do a bilateral one and if that doesn't work do the spinal cord stimulation that someone had posted about in the forum.
I've also been on Lyrica and methadone for awhile. Well actually I haven't been on the methadone in a few weeks and the pain is back to keeping me from functioning. I thought he might continue the methadone treatment like some of my other docs have. While he did keep the methadone he gave me something different for breatkthrough pain called nucynta. I've been on oxy, morphine, methadone, vicodin, percocet, tramadol, fentynal patches, norspan... the list goes on. Here I was thinking i'd heard of all the pain meds docs will give out.
I just had my first one and so far I like it. (I'm not spasming, I can get back onto crutches around the house... and I also have a tiny little buzz which, while not what I'm looking for certainty doesn't hurt the situation!) He said it's exactly like oxycodone except works with different receptors and helps diminish the nasty side effects. I try my best to stay off too many pills but it's gotten to the point sometimes I lose everything I've gained in PT just through the sheer pain.
Anyone else have experience with this drug? I'm willing to give anything a shot.
