Hi. Im new to this site and would really like to befriend some other people with CES. I would like to hear your stories please? ...I mean

how you got your injury, how longs youve lived with it, and what , if any recovery have you made?

With me I was running across a road and turned to run for a bus. It made me slip a disc and 10 months later beffore my corrective sugery

was to take place, It developed into cauda equina. My surgery wasn't performed within the required 48hrs and the operation didnt take place

until a week after my symptoms started, so it left me with the SCI.

Hope some of you want to talk :bye: x

Hi Ree, welcome to the site. I am a fellow CES victim my story is not disimilar to yours - failure to diagnose correctly and ended up with CES as a result. I am 18 months into my journey and have had further problems leading to poorer mobility and am waiting for a second op to decompress and add some metal work,

hi reee
i also have CES - hurt my back originally with 2 horse related incidents. then in dec last year went to my gp with worsening pain, numbness etc and gp's ignored me and didn't refer me. i finally got to see oncall gp and they referred me straight to specialist who diagnosed CES and had surgery on the same day. specialist said if it had been left for another 24 hours i would have been paralysed from the waist down. i'm left with no feeling in both feet, foot drop on both sides with which i use splints to correct. in pain all the time and have difficulty walking. walk weird and with the aid of a walking frame. can't bend or carry anything heavy. been like this for the last 7 months. no change for good or bad. pm if you want to talk. see my full story is in the incomplete section esslouis

Hi Reee, I'm glad you've found this site. I have L1 and L5 injuries with CES due to a tornado last summer. I just passed the one year mark in my recovery. You will hear often that no two people recover the same. For me, I've come from being flat on my back a year ago, without even the strength to sit up. Now, I walk with two canes and can get around various rooms in my home without any aids, as long as I can use a wall or counter for balance. I don't have much back pain and am getting slowly over the body pain caused by the rehab process. I work hard, exercise every day on a treadmill or bike and have a personal trainer help me with resistance exercises. It's been a long road, but I'm back to work now can can drive. I don't have to wear AFOs any longer. B&B powers have returned. Balance is still a big problem since my feet are about 50% numb.

If I have any advice to share, it would be to keep working to rebuild your strength and flexibility. If you have pain, you will have to modify everything so it's tolerable. Use a physical therapist to insure that you're doing things correctly and not injuring yourself.

There is hope, Reee. The healing process is long for injuries such as ours. Look for small improvements along the way. My best wishes go out to you!

Hi Reee

I'm a member of the CES club too unfortunately. My medical issues with my back started a couple of years ago when I tripped over the cat on the stairs. First laminectomy/discectomy done Feb 2010 and all went well. Back went again in November 2010 at same level. Late November, started having a few B & B accidents and numbness developed and spread over one leg, and saddle area. To cut a long story short, I had my second op in February 2011, about 3 months since start of symptoms. Had emergency op two days later, but symptoms worse and numbness in both legs. I am bowel and bladder incontinent, use my wheelchair for long distances and my crutches for getting around the house.

I'm really new to all this and still trying to get my head around it all. I am not sure I ever will.

I just wait for the day that things start to get better and I can get my old self back again as I don't like 'me' at the moment. :(

Welcome aboard and look forward to getting to know you better.
